Funny, I was accepted a few days ago and got $25k/yr. Something seems off.reddspartan wrote:I was accepted a few days ago of the wait-list with a $20,000 scholarship/yr. I immediately sent in an email trying to negotiate for a bit more aid. I have deadlines coming up so I did not want to waste time. They emailed back within a day saying that I was one of two people they had offered money to in that round of and that I got the larger amount. They said I could expect maybe $5k more a year, but that they wouldn't be able to offer that until after the May 2nd deadline.
I'm really torn. GW is my current top choice, but it's so damn expensive. W&M is offering a $30k/yr scholarship and UIUC a full ride. I withdrew from Indiana and Minnesota since I could care less to work in either market and UIUC offered better prospects for Chicago.
My heart tells me GW, but my wallet says don't do it.

GW tells me they have no money, but they offer waitlist applicants 20-25k per year. I don't understand this at all unless they were YP'd.
Edit: Never mind, they have better numbers (LSAT) than me.

170, 3.67. They reached out to me after WL and I asked if I was still interested, then got accepted a day or two later. I feel pretty confident I was YP'd.werdrd wrote:+1griffinz wrote:Would either or both of you mind sharing your stats? Congrats & Thx!

Are you planning on attending? I would be paying mostly through loans, though my parents say they will throw in about $12k a year, so between that and the scholarship, my CoL is basically covered. Still a lot of debt though.Holodigm wrote:170, 3.67. They reached out to me after WL and I asked if I was still interested, then got accepted a day or two later. My debt is gonna be six figures no matter what. I won't lie and say GWU is my #1, but I'm genuinely willing to consider any school.

I put my deposit down before GW's 2015 graduate employment statistics came out and was quite surprised by how much they dropped. Does anybody know why GW took such a big hit in terms of their employment score (66%)? Their part time/short-term placement increased dramatically as well. I'm worried that this will be a new trend for upcoming years. Considering that GW had been very consistent in recent year in terms of employment, did anything happen to GW that could explain this?

Thats definitely something I'm interested in knowing. I quickly compared 2014 to 2015 and the formats are slightly different. Also, the school-funded positions decreased from about 13% to 8%. In 2015 there were fewer graduates so I wonder if having a smaller sample size somehow played into a skew in fields or types of jobs people are interested in.berkeleytransfer wrote:I put my deposit down before GW's 2015 graduate employment statistics came out and was quite surprised by how much they dropped. Ya they had a smaller class in 2015 compared to previous years which is a good thing in my view. An interesting note is that their big law placement (100+) saw a decent increase from 28.5% to 32%. I wonder why their big law placement increased, but overall they took such a big hit. Government placement also dropped by 6% when it had been extremely consistent for the previous 3 years. This is somewhat concerning considering they also dropped in terms of rankings. I know the rankings don't mean a lot since they tend to fluctuate, but I'm wondering if employment was the main reason for the drop?michlaw89 wrote:Thats definitely something I'm interested in knowing. Looking at Georgetown and GW side by side on LST and they're more similar than not (though Gtown has the nod in big law placement by 8.6%). Maybe the class of 2015 was just a weird group for the two resident DC schools?berkeleytransfer wrote:Ya they had a smaller class in 2015 compared to previous years which is a good thing in my view. Edit: and I believe they went down on LST because their JD-bar passage required numbers went down.

For anyone accepted via the ED Presidential Merit Scholarship, I would really appreciate learning your stats! Totally wondering what the chances are for getting this.
