Re: USC c/o 2019 Applicants Thread (2015-2016)
$105K from USC should be great leverage for a $105K scholarship from UC Irvine, right? But will an 80% scholly offer from ASU (which may go up this week) be good leverage for USC? Should I hold out to see what UCLA offers before pushing USC? If UCLA offers me a really weak aid package should I just go forth with ASU as my bargaining chip? If I could get off the Berkeley wait list in time would that be a better bargaining chip with the LA schools than any of these other offers, despite no $$$?
Sorry for tons of questions, what it all boils down to is given my situation as described above, what steps would you take moving forward? Assuming ASU, UCI, UCLA, and USC are all attractive options to me, which they are, and are all about even right now when factoring in aid offers, which they are.

UCLA will be the best leverage against USC.oh lawd wrote:$105K from USC should be great leverage for a $105K scholarship from UC Irvine, right? But if they offer me a comparatively weak package, wouldn't it be poor leverage?ProductofUnreality wrote:UCLA will be the best leverage against USC.oh lawd wrote:$105K from USC should be great leverage for a $105K scholarship from UC Irvine, right? I refreshed the status checker about a dozen times just to make sure it wasn't a glitch.jumbo2016 wrote:YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSBirdLawExpert wrote:After three months and two weeks sitting at complete, I finally went to Committee 1st Read.

Yeah but you don't know their offer yet. Also even if their offer is a lower amount it might cover a higher percentage of tuition since USC is so expensive.oh lawd wrote:But if they offer me a comparatively weak package, wouldn't it be poor leverage?ProductofUnreality wrote:UCLA will be the best leverage against USC.oh lawd wrote:$105K from USC should be great leverage for a $105K scholarship from UC Irvine, right? You could start now if you want to get the ball rolling, I'm just saying UCLA will give you the best bargaining chip if they offer a comparable scholarship.

Haha that was a big party. I've heard back from most of the schools I applied to by now. I gotta run but we can PM if you're curious.BirdLawExpert wrote:Thanks, Ogre! Re: USC c/o 2019 Applicants Thread (2015-2016)
Just my two cents - I brought up acceptances at higher ranked schools (2 T-14s but no money yet) to try and bargain with a T20 school and the way they answered made it sound like they really only took money from other schools into account, not just general acceptances, even if the other schools are higher ranked.oh lawd wrote: If I could get off the Berkeley wait list in time would that be a better bargaining chip with the LA schools than any of these other offers, despite no $$$?

One would think that this info would keep me off the status checker for at least another week or so, given that I've only been complete since 2/4. But no, no I'm still gonna do my second daily check this afternoon.BirdLawExpert wrote:After three months and two weeks sitting at complete, I finally went to Committee 1st Read.

They really shouldn't post those incremental status changes - it only makes it worse, for me... My days at the office seem to be getting longer and longer.
