My belief is that they know their medians are gonna be lower. In light of that, if they can try to keep a few high number students but have mostly full-tuition students that will have their medians drop slightly, it might actually be better for them in the short term economically rather than paying out high scholarships to students with higher numbers. My guess.Dr. Nefario wrote:I honestly don't see how they're even gonna have kids depositbob311 wrote:Shame how BC has been. Not even gonna try negotiating. I will withdraw. You know, I'm sure BC feels that it has solid employment placement and doesn't need to be throwing crazy money to accepted students. It's a good school with a great reputation on the east coast, so I understand their reasoning in a way.
But if you aren't going to make compelling offers to those who are right around your 75th percentiles, who are you going to make offers to? It doesn't even look like people at median are getting good merit aid packages. And they should at least acknowledge negotiation emails. Re-sending their low ball offer without any reply is lazy/disrespectful.

I haven't even gotten a response and its been almost three weeks. I also feel like BU is about to benefit drastically from this.Moneytrees wrote:You know, I'm sure BC feels that it has solid employment placement and doesn't need to be throwing crazy money to accepted students. I couldn't agree with the above comment more. After my first visit to both BC and BU in October, I left feeling like BC was the place I wanted to be, 100%. I only considered BU as a secondary option if I didn't get into BC. After having been waitlisted by BC (when both of my stats are above their 75%) and now seeing how they are treating their admitted students with regard to their communication and substantially low scholarship offers, I am now so glad that I was accepted by BU (with 35k per year). I would have been thrilled to get into BC and attend their program-- but after seeing how disorganized they have been, and conversely how well-planned BU's preview day was, and how efficient they are with scholarship offers, I couldn't be happier to go there in the fall.

Same experience negotiating scholly money. You can tell the quality of the school by their responses. BC has consistently even spelled my name wrong in email responses.

I called today and they told me I didn't even get a scholarship... so sad so sad.

I got the "Ahmed" thing also... I also received an email asking me to apply for a scholarship for which the due date had already passed. And I'm wait listed. And then they followed up with another email saying to disregard the previous email. What a cluster...

Re: Boston College C/O 2018 Applicants
Visited on Friday and had a similar experience when I sat down with one of the fin aid folks.
Asked her what the school's policy was on negotiating scholarships and she gave me a kindof snooty response about the initial offer usually being their best, but that I'd be welcome to submit my other offers for them to see.
Judging by the responses that others on this thread have received from the school, I don't even think I'm going to waste my time. Which really is a shame considering that I probably would've overpaid a little bit to go to a place like BC had they made me feel like they really wanted me to attend the school.

I'm a BC Law 2L. Not going to rave about BC here. Like all schools, there are benefits and drawbacks (although things have gone well for me so far)...but give me a break, you're not a professional athlete. Scholarship is one thing, but "feeling loved" shouldn't be relevant to this process.GoBills wrote:Which really is a shame considering that I probably would've overpaid a little bit to go to a place like BC had they made me feel like they really wanted me to attend the school.
The ability of the office of admissions and financial aid to get your name right in an email is similarly irrelevant to your legal education or the ability of BC to lead you to a job.
For everyone else, just FYI, i was able to successfully negotiate by sending them my other offers. Make sure to negotiate those other offers up higher first before sending them to BC.
If anyone has other questions and wants an honest response, PM me. I am not super into school spirit and I don't care for advertising BC. I'll try to give you the real deal.
Good luck.

BC is failing to negotiate with candidates who are far above their medians and who have much better scholarship offers from other schools. It's a huge blunder by the administration, one that is inexcusable, because many people would like to go to school there and probably would enroll if given a fair merit aid package.

My comment, as edited shortly after I posted it, is directed to people complaining that they didn't spell names right, etc. I explicitly wasn't talking about scholarship offers.Moneytrees wrote:Pointless post.skri65 wrote:I'm a BC Law 2L. Boston College increased their offer to me from $20,000 annually to $25,000 annually, right as Notre Dame bumped me to $126,000 total.

Did anyone else get the deposit deadline reminder email today? I was also informed that they considered my negotiation email and cannot up my award at this time. I am currently getting double their offer at a lower T14, have ties to Boston, and went to ASD. Alas, they are being quite unreasonable.

As someone who is considering BC quite seriously, are there ANY positives as of late?? I went on a campus visit and it really seemed like a nice place to be. Students went out of their way to show the nitty gritty of class and give their true opinions. Class with Beckman was also awesome (and I'm not even a crim law kind of guy).

The first time I visited their campus I was so excited and immediately labeled them at my #1 choice. Their staff is friendly and my tour guide was entertaining and did a great job showing me around and answering my questions. I felt at home on their campus, and saw myself walking their halls, studying in the library, and participating in their extracurricular programs. But it seems to have gone all down-hill from there. I waited for months for a response from them after going complete, and then I received a request asking me to explain why my LSAT score increased the second time I took it. After replying, I received a wait-list offer the following week. This seemed ludicrous to me, as my GPA is far above their 75th percentile, and my LSAT is several points above their 75th percentile. In any case, I sent in a LOCI as well as another letter of rec, and received no response that they were received. Plus, after seeing how they are treating admitted students with regard to scholarships, I am completely over them.
But all of that being said, if you feel that you've been treated fairly by them, and you are happy with your scholarship offer and the campus and education that they will provide, then by all means don't write them off because of what you've heard from the rest of us.

I just received an email "reminding" me to confirm my scholarship, and pay my seat deposit by the 15th. Problem is I did not receive any information about a scholarship offer... I searched every folder on my email, and nothing. I guess they forgot to send me the offer...

yeah, there is such a disconnect between what's going on here with admissions vs. the rest of campus. i know most people aren't thinking this, but i don't think we should discount bc just because of the admissions process.lujanj7 wrote:rion91 wrote:As someone who is considering BC quite seriously, are there ANY positives as of late?? FYI: BC requires a seat deposit, even if you have not received your scholarship information. I don't know if they are flexible on that, but that is what I was told by admissions. BC is losing its allure for me.iguazu wrote:Same hereWichitaShocker wrote:I just received an email "reminding" me to confirm my scholarship, and pay my seat deposit by the 15th. I would love if the incompetence of the BC admissions team was exposed to their superiors. Compared to the other 25 (yea a lot) of schools I applied to, they have been the worst.

I was accepted on October 28th, so I'm thinking they just forgot to notify me. I seriously doubt I will be depositing anyways.BasilHallward wrote:FYI: BC requires a seat deposit, even if you have not received your scholarship information. I legitimately hope that BC has moles on here so that they can read about how angry we all are at their lackluster admissions process. They deserve to know why they are losing out on so many great admits this year.
