Just wanted to make sure the idiot was held accountable and didn't delete and deny it. I figure two porn posts aren't going to scar anyone more than one will.aschup wrote:Protip: If someone posts porn, DON'T FUCKING QUOTE IT.

Just think how awesome it will be that we're going to start law school with an established social group in place. We're going to intimidate the fuck out of the noobs.
I've never been one for group study, but I have this dream of an informal study group where we just get together and debate the topics of classes like once a week or so. Who's in?

I'm not really much of a group studier, but the moar informal, the better. Sounds good to me!Opie wrote:Just think how awesome it will be that we're going to start law school with an established social group in place. We're going to intimidate the fuck out of the noobs.

Lol we already have our clique! Let's really intimidate and all the noobs and get matching t-shirts. We'll take Drake by storm! Jk, of course.Opie wrote:Just think how awesome it will be that we're going to start law school with an established social group in place. We're going to intimidate the fuck out of the noobs.

In regards to study groups, I actually hate truly studying in groups. I'm very individualized in that respect. I meant more of a weekly get-together to bitch about law school and catch each other up if we're confused about stuff. Lol I'm just worried I'll get really lost a few weeks in and not know what's going on.

We're studying twins! I always hated going to study tables for my sorority because I never get anything done in group studying--hence my "the more informal, the better" comment :3shredderrrrrr wrote:Lol we already have our clique! I can just see this now: "You didn't set up a study group before you got here?" ~disapproving look~ Good luck then! Hope you have your outline code to finished!
That will be me on the first day of orientation.
Seriously though, I don't want anything formalized. I'm not even thinking books and notes, just gripe about school and chat about what's going on in class. Plus refreshments. Yum.

OMG! That's totally my views about studying groups too! Any effective study group I've ever formed was focused on bonding over our hatred/complaints towards the professor so I'm line with all of you!
It'll be such a nice break from actually studying!
Also, I e-mailed Andrew about full renewals from students who are initially given 25k and above and it's 87.5% so I feel so much better about my renewal chances!!!!

I sent my fall/spring docs in a few weeks ago. Sent my summer docs in this past weekend. Not sure if we're to receive anything, though :cOpie wrote:Anyone get their financial aid documents in? Are we supposed to get anything back?

Another "familiarize llachans with Iowa" question.
My girlfriend is still in her undergrad. She's a biology major. Her options as I see them are Drake (expensive), Iowa State University (far), and Grand View (which I know nothing about).
So...am I leaving any school options out, how is Grand View's reputation, and which option would be best for her? I would feel terrible if she left University of Illinois: Chicago which is a pretty respected program for a school that isn't as capable of getting her a job. She'd like to eventually to research at a lab.

It's an almost 2 hour drive : / I wish the two were closer because U Iowa has a really good science program...and her sister goes there.vpintz wrote: would U of Iowa be an option?

=/ do you HAVE to be nearby? This might sound bitchy, but honestly, two hours isn't that bad (take this from someone whose girlfriend lives in Australia) as long as one of you has a car and you're okay with the semi-distance thing. (again, I don't mean to sound bitchy or rude, just my (unsolicited) two cents.)llachans wrote:It's an almost 2 hour drive : / I wish the two were closer because U Iowa has a really good science program...and her sister goes there.vpintz wrote: would U of Iowa be an option?

Yeah, I see what you're saying but there's 0 chance she'd be moving to Iowa if it wasn't for me. She loves Chicago and is pretty much moving because neither one of us is down for a long distance relationship. We've both had serious long distance relationships in the past and it's just not something we want to do - - especially since law school is going to take a toll on our relationship as it is.vpintz wrote:

Ah, gotcha. Fair enough. To (kind of) answer your original question--I have no idea what GVU's reputation is, especially for the sciences. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful D:llachans wrote:Yeah, I see what you're saying but there's 0 chance she'd be moving to Iowa if it wasn't for me. GVU is a nice school with a decent reputation, but it's a small liberal arts college. I wouldn't recommend it for hard science.
My recommendation is ISU. It's really only about a 40 minute drive, and they have one of the best set-ups for what she wants to do including: the USDA National Animal Disease Lab, the National Soil Tilth Lab, internship opportunities with ag companies like Pioneer and Monsanto, and extension offices in every county where conservation and agronomy work is done.

I don't know much in these regards, but I second the motion for ISU. You could then get an apartment in Ankeny and split the distance. Barring traffic, I'd assume it's 20 minutes each way.Opie wrote:GVU is a nice school with a decent reputation, but it's a small liberal arts college. I wouldn't recommend it for hard science.

It's more like 10 to Drake and 30 to ISU from Ankeny, but yes, good call.shredderrrrrr wrote:I don't know much in these regards, but I second the motion for ISU.
