I put down my seat deposit about two weeks ago. When do we receive information about what happens next? The only communications I've received through my AU email that they told me to check regularly are events happening at the school. I don't even know when the program starts at this point. Maybe I'm jumping the gun with all this, but I'm anxious! I need to know!

Orientation for new students seems to start on August 15.

Would you be willing to share numbers and did you send in a LOCI?

I know the DC area is a top choice for me and my fiancé. Hope I don't come off as rude by asking these questions, but here we go:

Does being further off from the downtown area provide for any hindrances regarding job placement or networking? ANd then the same question but with regards to the fact that the other two law Schools in the area are indeed higher ranked than American.

Also, i don't think its any secret that American is a slightly left leaning student body and faculty focused on public service and human rights. I am not a closed minded or ignorant individual, but my views do not exactly line up with that mindset and I am not particularly interested in public service (already a sell-out if you will ha). Does this actually play a role in the law school lifestyle? Should I look elsewhere is public service type law is not in my goal lists?

Again, not trying to sound rude or insulting or close-minded, just trying to get some answers.

Thank you to any and all that can help me out and good luck to all of you in the coming months!
From a current AU student,
Being further off from downtown isn't a hindrance as long as you stick close to the metro. Adding a bus to your commute will add on a lot of time. The school itself also hosts a lot of networking events. Your 1L year you won't have much time to get out, and you have plenty of networking to do in-school. Once you get to your 2L and 3L years you will have externships/internships that get you to the capital and networking.

As to being behind GW and Georgetown, sure, it's a factor. But there are a LOT of law schools in DC. There are also a lot of opportunities in DC. It's a competitive market everywhere, but if you get good grades and hustle, you'll do fine.

American does have a left-leaning student body. And plenty of people do human rights stuff. But plenty of people don't. I don't plan to go into public service, but I'm left-leaning. If you don't like socializing with people who tend to vote democrat, then I suppose that would bother you here. But in terms of what you want to pursue people aren't going to care if you want to go into business law or something that makes more money. We all have bills to pay.

Good luck

Also accepted off the waitlist yesterday. I received an email asking my level of interest and then got a call shortly after. Around 25% LSAT and above 75% GPA. I sent in 2 LOCIs, toured the school, and attended a waitlist session

Awesome. Thanks for the info :D . Can I ask if either of you are URM? Just trying to gauge if they're looking at increasing diversity students right now or a wider pool.

Great! Yeah, it sounds like our applications have similar elements. My numbers are similar to summergirl's. Lots of work experience in PI. Visited, wrote LOCI. Hoping the good news keeps coming for wait list people :D

C'mon you "off the WL accepted" suckas, let's update that LSN profile!
I need a straight shot of invigorated (or fleeting) hope.

I have the same stats. sent one LOCI only. Did not visit. How long did you wait before sending the second LOCI? The only reason I did not send a second one is because a month hasn't passed since I sent my first one.

Generally every month to six weeks is advised for sending LOCI's.
