same thing happened to me. the voicemail was pretty ambiguous as to what he wanted to talk about. but i called back right away and he was super friendly, and told me i was admitted. simple as that.

also, i'm in socal and he offered me the all expense paid trip too. (i guess for me that just means free hotel stay).

Nah, he won't think you're nuts. He'll think you're committed and will offer you a 200% scholarship, a new Maserati and a guaranteed biglaw job.

Would like to know this as well. Also, who should we address the letter to? I received a huge scholarship from WUSTL ( almost full tuition) and a decent scholarship from Texas... I got nothing from UCLA. Slightly offended, especially since someone with my exact same numbers got 60k

sorry i can't be more helpful, but a UCLA 1L friend of mine said that he felt building a rapport with dean schwartz was instrumental in his admission. i can confirm via my phone call with him that he's a really friendly person and seems genuinely nice (though it's his job to seem that way, of course). but i'd say go for it, and i would address your LOCI to the dean himself and maybe CC admissions as well, just my $.02 though.

in other news, i got my admitted students packet today, which is quite attractive. official acceptance letter, UCLA Law magazine, and UCLA Law bulletin (this last one contains all the standard newly admitted student info).

Got my waitlist email last night, and I'm SUPER EXCITED. That's right, all-caps excited. If you had my GPA, you'd be excited too.

I can verify that Dean Schwartz is genuinely nice; I've met him a few times at various recruiting events and he's been really encouraging. In the spirit of the day, I'd offer him this fine verse as my LOCI

Ugh, I have the feeling I'm about to get smacked in the face with so many wait lists I'm not gonna know what to do with them all. UCLA included. Guess it's better than getting smacked with a bunch of rejects... I guess.

I just started the email off with "Dear Admissions Committee:" and sent it to Dean Schwartz. He responded in like two minutes saying that he would forward it to the scholarship committee. He was super nice about it. I haven't heard anything since then though. I told them about my offer of 76,500@Texas. Since then I've received 45000@Michigan and 129000@WUSTL, so I'm thinking about emailing him again in the next few days. I really want to go to UCLA, but no way would I go at sticker when I have these other offers.

Accepted today! No mention of scholarship money or all-expense paid trip. My numbers aren't spectacular, but I wouldn't mind a free trip since I'm from the east coast. I went complete 1/14 (I think) for those wondering and I had a fee waiver.

Accepted a little while ago by phone, with $$$$$$! (The Dean told me about my scholarship -- no idea if he does that for everyone.)
