$10k one-time (non-recurring). Withdraw or try to leverage my better offers with them?

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Interesting that we all got the same, especially since you guys have higher numbers than me. Maybe it's all in one bracket? Or they might just not give out that much $. If you're interested in attending, I would definitely try to negotiate. For me, I really want to be in NY and got into my #1 choice, so I wasn't planning on going to American - if I hadn't gotten into either of my top 2 choices it would be a strong consideration for me, but because it's "far" away the $ would also be a strong factor. Right now I'm working on negotiating between my top 2 choices (still waiting on a scholarship from one). But yea negotiating never hurts, the worst they can say is they won't increase the offer which leaves you right where you are now. Kind of annoying that it's a one time scholarship... only taking $10,000 off sticker isn't a lucrative offer, IMO.

I was told by the assistant dean of admissions that merit schollys are either 5k or 10k ...

Anyone have an idea as to when the endowed scholarship offers will go out? This can't be all they're offering, it would put them at a huge disadvantage to other schools.URMdan wrote:I was told by the assistant dean of admissions that merit schollys are either 5k or 10k ...

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Agreed. I guess knowing that, I'm happy to have gotten the 10K. However, that's the smallest offer I've gotten, even from comparably ranked schools. It's also surprising that it's a one-time scholarship. Does the school not have a good support system from alumni/much money? I think that at least they should say that they are giving the top scholarship, so that we recognize this is the highest they will go...not to sound obnoxious but I was a little disappointed when I saw that number, just because like you said, it's not a lucrative offer. Plus I am hoping to increase my scholarship at a similarly ranked school that offered me a little more, so I was hoping to use American as some kind of leverage... but if it's their top scholarship then that makes me feel a little better, lol.SteelyDan wrote:Anyone have an idea as to when the endowed scholarship offers will go out? Is it confirmed that the non-renewable 10k scholly is the highest amount they give out?

Anyone also confused how you must accept by 5 PM on their Admitted Student Day?

Seriously? That sounds really weird - do you mean the April 22 one? Isn't that even after the deposit date?Flips88 wrote:Got the 10k scholarship offer.

Hm, I still haven't received any mail from them since being accepted last Friday 2/18. 10k non-recurring...how dreadful! How can they hope to compete with other schools?

That's really shitty planning. I'm attending the April 1st ASD. Am I supposed to whip out my iphone before it is even over and shoot over an email? Did anyone who applied for the PIPS scholarship (full-ride public interest/service scholly) get an email about scholarships?

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Yeah, I was planning on trying to go too, but I don't see the point. I'm in at GW and still waiting on Georgetown. Saving $10k by going to American won't be worth it in the long, imo. Disappointed.ilovesf wrote:That's really shitty planning. I'm attending the April 1st ASD. Am I supposed to whip out my iphone before it is even over and shoot over an email? Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Do you think that means you are out of the running for the PIPS if they offered you another scholarship? Do you think that means I am still in the running if I didn't recieve anything? Or, do you think this all means nothing? We're all in the habit of reading into EVERYTHING. Also, why a long shot for the PIPS?dariamorgendorffer wrote:I applied for PIPS (serious long shot) and got the 10k scholarship via email today.ash8309 wrote:Did anyone who applied for the PIPS scholarship (full-ride public interest/service scholly) get an email about scholarships?
