Apologies if this has already been covered (didn't see it in the last few pages), what exactly is the difference between a hold/reserve? What did the hold e-mail say? The reserve e-mail says the next evaluation of candidates on reserve will begin at the end of May.

I can't copy and paste from the PDF for whatever reason, but holds are still under active consideration and will receive a decision by April 22.

Dear Mr. TheLastStraw05,

We wish to inform you that, after careful consideration, your application has been placed in our "Hold" category, which means that your application is still under active consideration by the Admissions Committee.

To provide a context for your present status, we expect over 8,000 candidates will seek admission to our entering class, numbering approximately 380 students, during this admissions season. This year's applicant pool, in keeping with recent years, promises to be among the largest and most highly qualified in our history. Therefore, your current standing represents a testament to your unique strengths and potential fit with Columbia Law School.

While we cannot speculate as to the final outcome of your candidacy, we wish to inform you that yours is one of a select group of applications placed on Hold and that you will be given every possible consideration as the season continues. Consistent with our admissions protocol, some applicants may ultimately be offered admission, some will be placed on Reserve, and others will be informed that their application for admission has been denied.

In the interim, you may also submit an updated academic transcript, if applicable, through March 31, 2011, to supplement your application while it is under review by our Committee. However, if during this time you decide that you no longer wish to be considered for admission to Columbia Law School, kindly notify us by contacting our Assistant Director of Admissions, Danielle Flores, at XXXXXX. i don't think they've gotten to us yet. i'm complete 1/19. latest on the spreadsheet i saw was complete 1/8 (i think).

So Columbia is my REACH school (I'm definitely below the medians, maybe even the 25%), but I had to try, right? I went complete on 11/30 and haven't heard anything. I'm both terrified and unfortunately optimistic as these waves of holds and WLs go by and I hear nothing. They really should just ding me and get it over with. Could being Hispanic really give me this much of a boost?
