To the school's credit I always find it weird when some posters copy and paste content of email with schools on TLS (Unless it is a generic content). I can see adcoms avoiding to do certain things that could actually help/benefit an applicant (eg an exception or sth) just out of fear that it would be on the internet the next morning. Like the poster said we need to be careful, especially when posting in school's threads.TripTrip wrote:They didn't like that I was publicly comparing offers from their school and another. They recommended that I get advice from them instead. The sentiment varies depending on the admissions office, however. I had a conversation with HLS once I got here (HLS was not the school that outed me) and they expressed sympathy to where I was coming from and understood the value of research and second opinions when you have little in the way of IRL relationships with lawyers. That doesn't mean you should be cavalier online, but don't stop using technology because you're scared, either. It's the same rule as you'll have for the rest of your legal career: write as if everyone knows who you are and will read what you write and you'll be fine.
Also, for those who are worried about being outed on TLS: the school didn't out me from my numbers or my profile or anything like that. I emailed the admissions office to ask a question and posted the two line response in that school's thread. It didn't require any dot-connecting to figure out who I was; the admissions officer who emailed me read the post.

Certainly that would make sense. However, the school didn't care at all that I had quoted something they said (it was a very mundane response), only that I would be so public about my scholarship offers. Mostly because other students did not get such good offers, and they didn't want the other admits to see mine. (Full tuition scholarship + COL stipend.)Black_Swan wrote:To the school's credit I always find it weird when some posters copy and paste content of email with schools on TLS (Unless it is a generic content). This forum is full of people posting their scholarship offers. If there's no confidentiality blurb in the email, then how does the adcomm justify his/her argument?TripTrip wrote:Certainly that would make sense. I guess they just don't like the idea of applicants being able to talk to each other and share experiences.Sirs_LMNOPQRS wrote:This forum is full of people posting their scholarship offers. If there's no confidentiality blurb in the email, then how does the adcomm justify his/her argument?

If some school retracted their admission because I talked to other 0L's, I would tell them that I wouldn't want to be a member of a school without a strong sense of community, where students are helpful to each other and open about their experiences. If anything, you dodged a bullet.TripTrip wrote:I guess they just don't like the idea of applicants being able to talk to each other and share experiences.Sirs_LMNOPQRS wrote:This forum is full of people posting their scholarship offers. Aren't they required to disclose the levels of financial support their students receive anyways?TripTrip wrote:Certainly that would make sense. They probably just don't want a situation where you have two guys with the same stats and one gets a pretty substantial scholly and the other gets much less or nothing at all.

It's just like any other market. Once consumers begin to have access to more information, the producers don't like it because it tends to put downward pressure on prices. But it makes the market efficient and is better for us

More so if one of the applicants happens to have lower statsAugust Wilson wrote:They probably just don't want a situation where you have two guys with the same stats and one gets a pretty substantial scholly and the other gets much less or nothing at all.

Apologies if this is a dumb question (asking on behalf of a friend... I'm a 2L at a T6): have all the invitations for a JS1 been extended or is there still hope?

Definitely will be more. Harvard is accepting the Feb scores this time around and also extended their deadline until March 1, so I would think there will be waves (not just "held" or WL candidates getting off those lists for a JS1) well into March of this year.nutella123 wrote:Apologies if this is a dumb question (asking on behalf of a friend... J2: day 8-14
J3: day 15-21
J4: day 22-31
So J4 is a bit longer, and includes the 1/23 admits. Had to split it up somehow.
