Hi, so there are 256 pages of this thread, and my searches haven't yielded the right answer, so bear with me if this has been covered...

I just got offered a Preferred Waitlist spot, and I do know now that means somewhere around 40 - 50 applicants get eventually accepted out of around 300 - 500 students. The accuracy of these numbers is not the issue here, though. My LSAT is a woeful 163, my GPA is 3.81, and I expected nothing better than a curt rejection email from GULC. And for those for you with higher numbers who didn't get offered WL, I'm as confused as you are. Just got rejections from GW and W&L two days ago!

They say they don't rank WL'ers, but I imagine my 163 does NOT make me competitive when it comes to decisions. I also know that they will contact me (not the other way around) in May, to gauge my interest. Does anybody have any advice on what I can do, strategically, to make my interest known, and to make me seem compelling in spite of my low LSAT? I am not religious, so praying won't work, and I'm poor, so bribery is right out of the question!

I have maintained my GPA since the Fall, and just started at two volunteering jobs several days ago. Anything else I can do make admissions noise?

I was just regular, I went complete on 2/3 I think. I think I would have had a better shot if I applied at a more reasonable time (of year); I think next year's cycle will go better for me.

Where'd you get those acceptance numbers from? Is that for just the preferred waitlist or all three WL tiers?

Assuming GULC is your first choice, make sure to tell them so in your LOCI. Commit to attending if admitted (but only if you mean it).

Outright rejected as of a couple minutes ago. Was one of the 12/12 ED deferred. I was thinking there'd at least be a WL in there for me. might be reapplying next year which would be a major blow.

just got the rejection email. also UR 2/26. 2nd time gulc told me no (also applied last yr). oh well, at least i tried. my first rejection of the cycle. good luck to everyone else.

Yeah, sorry, I just picked them out of some old posts on this site. I shouldn't mislead anyone as to their accuracy. But I did get an idea that around 50 maximum applicants are accepted off the Preferred Waitlist.

Thanks for the advice. May is a long ways away, and while it's plenty of time to shore up my work experience, etc, it will be hard to strategize with several expected acceptances in the coming 4 weeks or so...

Well, it wasn't my first choice before, because I felt that to do so would be analogous to saying "I want to play for the NFL when I grow up." [I'm 37 years-old]. Now it has got my attention for sure, and when they email me in May I'll let them know, in no uncertain terms, that an offer of admission would not go wasted on me!

There has been some speculation that waitlists will be more likely to result in acceptances this year, due to so many apps being thrown out to all the schools. Not sure if its true, but it's something to consider.

Oh, do you mean because so many applicants are applying to so many other schools as well? (like 20 apps instead of 13?)
Because one would think that simply a larger pool of applicants would mean a larger waitlist, and a no less competitive pool of WLers, right? Maybe I'm just not following the weird logic of how they do "yield management," etc...

I am new to this forum, so apologize if I am being horrible at asking repeat questions. I think I have read everything relating to this.

I got on the preferred waitlist on Thursday, 2/25. Is it true that there is more than one version of the preferred waitlist? I saw that someone above had a letter indicating that they needed to wait until May. My letter said I would be updated no later than March 22nd.

The email also said to keep them in the loop about any deadlines or travel plans I have...is that a clever way of saying I should get my butt to DC and try to get an interview?

I appreciate any thoughts...I just applied in February (I was late in the game in the application process)...

I went UR 2.something > UR 2.25 (on the 24th though) and that's where I still am. No emails yet either.

As I understand it, there are two actual Waiting Lists: the normal one, and also the one GULC calls its "Preferred Waiting List." Of the latter group, there are also a "special" group (I am quoting, not being ironic ).
This special group on the Preferred List are told they will be contacted by March 22nd, as I understand it. I am the guy who mentioned being contacted in May. I am a "non-special" member of the Preferred Waiting List.

So, the take-away for you is that you are the cream of the Waitlist crop!

I'm 173/3.17 and I just got my lsat score yesterday. I want to go to GULC F/T, I understand their app window is closed and I was pretty much a borderline applicant anyway. I would consider going there part time, since I've heard that transferring to FT is hassle free.

But i'm much, much more interested in putting my bid in for F/T. If I check that I am applying to both programs on the application, will they shrug off my FT app and just put me in PT? I don't want to sacrifice a potential admit to FT just for the PT...

I'm trying to decide between applying just FT or both. I guess my decision depends on two things I don't know:
1: what are my chances in FT applying this late?
2: how would they treat the app if I check both?

Anecdotally, I've seen a GULC PT student on here claim that they really look for a reason you'd wanna do PT like a job in DC, and most of the people admitted to it applied for PT only. By this account they treat most people who apply to both as not actually being interested in PT.

edit: this could very well change this year now that USNWR is considering PT programs.

Just applied today. Got my LSAT yesterday and I got a 170 (higher than I was expecting, so I sent a few more applications in to some reach schools). I have a 3.63 from NYU, so I would say I'm a pretty average applicant. I do think my essay is exceptional thought.

It may well be too late for me, but my fingers are crossed. GULC is theoretically my first choice, but I imagine if I got in I'd be paying sticker and its hard to turn down big scholarships from slightly lower ranked schools.

Probably the same. There may be a slight edge for someone who is so motivated that they want to take the best advantage of the time they're here by getting involved with real world work at the same time as going to school. We think that this adds something to the class. In terms of admission though, I don't think it makes that much of a difference, we basically weigh them the same.

anybody know if georgetown's a mac-friendly school? My assumption is that most have to be...but I've heard rumors this isn't always the case at all schools because some test programs are not compatible.

Well according to their recommendations they support Apple. Just so you know, GULC has a contract with Apple and they have discounted, recommended setups that you can buy. Also, if you want to increase your student budget so your loans will cover the purchase you have to buy the laptop in the academic year (sept - may).
