Sounds like an honest mistake to me. I hope you'll reconsider. In any case, thanks for answering so many questions.blowhard wrote:All,
It has come to my attention that somehow Admissions believes I misrepresented their policy on transferring people between Summer/Fall start and it was taken as university policy (or the person so asserted to them on the phone). They didn't explain when this happened (I contacted them about ASW), but after an extensive search of my post history and PMs, I can't find any advice I gave other than to contact Admissions with your story. So, I'm not sure where this came from. I don't know if someone else's post was misattributed to me, someone contacted Admissions with animus, or someone purposely mischaracterized my post in order to benefit themselves in their attempt to switch.
Fortunately, Admissions was gracious in their e-mail. After reiterating they weren't trying to admonish or silence me, they even offered to brief me on all of their policies in person now or answer any questions I had as they came up. However, I'm not taking them up on it. I'm not wasting my time doing your due diligence because you're too lazy/scared to call. If you're relying on TLS as a source of official policy, you're an idiot. If you purposely threw me under the bus in order to benefit yourself, you're a snake and don't belong here. Whoever you are, here is your first law school lesson: Rely only on authoritative sources.
I wouldn't say I've been "outed" per se as Admissions knew who I was from when I clarified policies with them during last year's fiascos. Still, I'm not at all happy that my reputation with them has been besmirched. I'm always careful to answer in general terms, provide only concrete examples I personally know of, and advise communication directly with Admissions. When I have commented on other policies, I cleared them first with them. I've never purported to speak for the University, except when authorized (and disclosed).
So, I'm out. I'll no longer be answering any questions (here or by PM) that involve dealing with the university. I'm happy to talk about my experiences (and I'll be at the dinners both ASWs for this purpose) but I'll no longer be actively monitoring any of the Michigan threads. Good luck, I hope you enjoy your visits.
TL,DR: Life's too short. Good luck.

One more day and I can achieve the goal I set at the beginning of this cycle. 6 months from submission to decision. C'mon Michigan.

Well, with the ASW this weekend - it looks like we'll have to sit tight for a bit longer (at least I hope it's only a bit).

I'm waitlisted, and I haven't updated either. So I think you're correct to not assign meaning.NYCLegalEagle911 wrote:Same here. On both counts.bobbyh1919 wrote:Haven't updated today, though I'm well beyond putting any meaning into it.

"Chill Lemur Speaks" from 1/10 is funny as hell. Pretty good insight on app-period induced paranoia...from UM's pov.

Is it weird, despite the new ranks, to still prefer UMich to UVA?

No. I'd say it is rational. They have 3l's wearing protest t-shirts at ASW....
Plus, Michigan is just sexy.

No because if you're going to choose a school based solely on rank you've got much too big problems. Unless that rank is #1 and that school is Yale.Liquox wrote:Is it weird, despite the new ranks, to still prefer UMich to UVA?

They're still in the same cluster. Until either school consistently outranks the other for 3+ (or some other arbitrary number) years, the difference in rank is irrelevant; MVPB is still MVPB regardless of how those letters are rearranged.Liquox wrote:Is it weird, despite the new ranks, to still prefer UMich to UVA?
The choice between MVPB should probably come down more to things like culture fit, scholarship, regional employment prospects. I'd still prefer Michigan over UVA purely for school culture (which is why I didn't apply to UVA).
TLDR - no, it's not weird.

The ridiculous part is that UVA's fellowship program ensured that the lack of real jobs didn't hurt UVA's employment statistics for US News rankings. FYI, the person that came up with the shirt design happened to be on Law Review at UVA and incapable of finding a job.aekea wrote:Being unemployed.Liquox wrote:BarcaCrossesTheAlps wrote:No. I'd say it is rational. haha it's totally true. also the stats UNDERESTIMATE the unemployment data bc ppl with the presidential scholars program (that were allegedly "guaranteed" to find a job among a bunch of govt. agency positions on reserve for them) were counted as employed even though some of them never ended up finding work and ended up on the payroll of the uva fellowship.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
