I like that Illinois is honest on their status checker and says "File Complete, Not in Review," instead of just leaving at Complete or Applied.

Re: Illinois 2010!
Thanks for taking out so much time from your day to keep us updated like this, I don't know of any school that is doing the same on these boards.Pless wrote:Decisions will be out this afternoon, over 300 of them.
There won't be any decisions sent out next week (22nd) because I will be at a conference and it is a short week. We will have a large batch of decisions on the 29th and I will post the dates of completion for that batch this afternoon. If you are currently on hold your file will receive its second review the week of February 1 with decisions on February 5th.
Is the batch of decisions being sent out on the 29th going to be from the group that applied before December, or will this group contain later applicants?

Re: Illinois 2010!
444 Decisions coming out it a few minutes. In case you are interested, 171 admits, 89 holds, 173 denies (sorry) and 11 Wait List invitations.
As a refresher on our Wait List, I always offer people the option to opt on to the list. There is a simple online survey that you complete and let us know what your preference is. I will then send regular updates to those on the list with what is going on and when they can expect another review. These first 11 are from a group of applications that were deferred from our Early Decision process.
For the decisions coming out on the 29th, there will be more Wait List invitations and a lot fewer holds. This is simply because we now have a better picture of the total applicant pool. Don't try to read into a "Hold" vs. "Wait List" decision.
I will be back this afternoon with the dates of people that will moved into review for the 29th.
Good luck everyone,
Paul

Alright! Just got the "in" e-mail plus substantial scholarship. I have to say, if Illinois wasn't one of my top choices before, it is now.

One of the rejections, unfortunately. Though it was tempered by getting into Iowa... literally minutes before.
Thanks for you time, Dean Pless, I wish the class of 2013 the best!

Re: Illinois 2010!
I was placed on hold. This is the first school I've applied to that puts non-EA applicants on hold rather than issuing a WL/D/A decision. I realized that Dean Pless has said not to read into the difference between hold and WL but I'm confused about the concept of a "hold". Why hold rather than put an applicant on a waitlist? Thanks in advance for illuminating info.

On hold.
I'd like to echo everyone else--thank you for being so candid, Dean Pless. The law school admission process is a difficult one, but your participation in the forums helps make it just a bit easier.

Re: Illinois 2010!
It's really cool that the dean actually posts on this forum board. It's the little things-the fee waivers, the handwritten notes, impressive packages, updates on application status, the dean answering questions on TLS that really have quite the effect on candidates. After all, we are all emotional creatures in some capacity and not cost-benefit analysis caculators. Not sure why more LS don't implement similar methods.
Anyway, thanks for the offer.
