Ugh. My app was received 1/12, I went complete 1/20, and am still "in committee." I wish I could have been in this latest round of 2/3 DRs. This isn't an indication of bad news, is it?

In with Emery $4k. It doesn't say anything about whether it's a 1-year scholarship, or if it's renewable (and if it is, what stipulation it carries, if any). I looked it up on the site, but it didn't really say.

It just says "In recognition of your achievements, you are being awarded the Emery Scholarship in the amount of $4,000". That's it. So do I assume this is a 1-time, non-renewable scholarship?

Nah, the letter you get in the packet doesn't have the stipulations. You'll get another small envelope with Dean Emery's signature with the whole "25%, 12k total if met" deal.

If it's 12K per year its something to consider

12K over 3 years means no Santa Clara for me

From the same person who sent me the email saying they were considering me for the dean's scholarship. Also was excited for absolutely no reason. Mean.

I was on a conference call at work and saw the e-mail from Assistant Dean Jeanette Leach come through. I almost had a nervous breakdown on the phone. I can't believe it was just an e-newsletter. I was relieved and disappointed all in one breath. WTF is up with that? The least they could do is put "Santa Clara Law e-news" in the subject line instead of "From Asst. Dean of Admissions," making you think it's some sort of shady rejection or something. Dangit! So frustrating!

can anyone comment on what the campus is like... i went to a college in a city in the northeast...the campus was in a very bad part of town ?

SCU's campus is very nice. It kind of has that mission-style architecture (it actually has a mission). It's well-kept...palm trees all around. It is like a few minutes away from downtown San Jose by car, which has its ghetto parts but has nice parts too. I think the area the school is in is pretty safe. It's not that exciting of an area though. As for the law buildings, I've only been in Bannan Hall when taking the LSAT which is pretty nice as far as the rooms go. To get to nicer places (Los Gatos, Campbell, Palo Alto..they all have great shopping/night life/places to eat), one would probably want a car. However, San Jose does have its charm. The San Jose Earthquakes play at SCU's Buck Shaw Stadium, so that's kinda cool if you are into soccer. Anyway, the campus is pretty nice.

Can you comment on where SCU graduate students like to stay?

yea, that is an odd title: "From Jeane*** Lea**, Assistant Dean of Admissions at Santa Clara Law"

uh, ok. There is also a from column in email.

They all use a email mailing list that tracks how many people open their email. By using a title as such, most people wouldn't hesitate to open. Might just be a way to show the dean that email newsletters work and students are interested to learn more about Santa Clara

Got the official letter in the mail today. $11K Emery Scholarship. If that is the total I will be withdrawing.

I got my letter today. In with $14,000 Emery Scholarship. I will likely be withdrawing soon....$14,000 still makes tuition super expensive.
