As a splitter (2.85/172) on hold at Northwestern I hope the split-quota hasn't been used up! Congratulations.

Wait, what? Wow. That's insane.

Also, Texas hates splitters this year.

Ironically I only get into the one with a 50% increase in applicants.

edit- I guess I feel like how Tyson Alualu must. Draft joke anyone?

So in the last 24 hours, both Chicago and Seton Hall informed me that my file was now complete.

Good grief. Is this normal? IIRC, I submitted those applications in early February!

Found my original post. I suppose I should update it:

Mild splitter here (3.26 GPA; 168 highest LSAT (of 2; previous was 166) :( 8 yrs WE at time of application)

In at:

- Santa Clara (with $ offer)
- UC Hastings

Waitlisted at:

- UCLA
- USC
- UC Davis

Out at:

- Harvard
- Stanford
- Columbia (I think - I can't remember if I'd gotten a response from them yet or not)
- Georgetown
- UVA
- UPenn
- Northwestern
- Berkeley

Overall I think my cycle has been pretty typical of an applicant with my numbers and years of WE - what do you think?

On another note, 170 really does seem to be a major dividing line into getting into a T20 school, as many people here have been stating.

I'm tempted to re-take the LSAT for the 3rd time and try to eke across that border (previously I'd PTed around 169 +/-3 pts across 20 tests or so, so the 168 is right about in line with my PT score. I was pretty pissed at my 166 b/c I'd done so well on the game section (June '09 with the dinosaurs) that I got careless on and rushed the LR sections >_<)).

Similar to this - you need a 167-168 to be competitive for the UIUC/WUSTL/Minn trifecta; otherwise, you can get shut out of the top 50. My 165 has left me in the T1 cold, though I got into T2's with $. A 166 is even more no-man's land. I would consider re-taking again in June to try to crack 167, but with my WL schools it would be deminishing returns at this point since I'm already at/above the 75ths.

No kidding. They were the first rejection letter I got. Come to think of it, only Berkeley (GPA lovers) and Texas rejected me, most of the other schools I've applied to that didn't accept me/accept with scholarship were waitlists. This is the life of the splitter.

Not sure about that, because Texas at least waitlisted me while a supposedly more splitter-friendly school rejected me. The few of us posting here aren't really enough to draw a whole lot of conclusions.

If you check out law school numbers you can see that they haven't admitted any non-URM using the site this cycle yet with a GPA below 3.4. However, I don't think any of the mid-high 170's folks are instate. I'm really curious if I would have been admitted as a 3.1, 176 Texas resident several years out of school. But alas, I pulled the UVA ED trigger before the first deadline so I am unable to provide another splitter data point.

Update: into Georgetown off the waitlist. So any splitters on the waitlist there might be seeing some movement.

DrPlacebo wrote:Finally got around to signing up after lurking for most of the year. This is getting really nerve-wracking.

Numbers: 171 LSAT, 3.37 GPA, 6 years out of undergrad; left medical school during 2nd year (long story) having passed everything up to that point (all P/F).

Main career interests: public interest or government, health law, mental disability law

Current status...

Accepted:
Pacific McGeorge (with full tuition $$$) - tentatively committed, most likely will stick with it over any other regional school
Houston (withdrew 4/14)
Seattle University (will withdraw, form has not yet arrived)

Waitlist:
Georgetown (special preferred) - first choice
UT-Austin
American

Denied:
Northwestern
UCLA

No decision:
Harvard
Chicago
Indiana-Bloomington
Loyola-Chicago
Seton Hall
Update: dinged by Harvard and Chicago. No surprise. But Georgetown (where I'm on SPWL) was my first choice to begin with.

URM status drops the UIUC/Minn/WUSTL threshold to 162-164 with a passable GPA.
