When you pay your deposit you're supposed to withdraw from other schools to which you have been accepted. So I really don't think you will have any bargaining power after the deposit.marisacb1012 wrote:I just got denied for an increase, but am hoping to ask again after the deadline.. That's like saying nothing. It's actually very much not true if you do just a little bit of research. I know that every school is different when it comes to whether or not the first deposit is binding. For example, when you go to pay your first deposit at Emory one of the options is "I'm holding my seat but still considering my options". Also, after the first seat deposit a lot of money is freed up from those that withdrew.Shootin wrote:That's like saying nothing. You think after I pay the deposit and show my interest it is possible they can increase? I'm assuming so because of the freed up money from withdrawls.

But schools know that a lot of money will be coming back. And I am sure they count on it one way or the other. And also people are still waiting for decisions. A late applicant with good numbers (or even a late WL acceptance) will get the extra money over them bumping somebody they don't want to bump (since one request was denied already). I don't really see why in this case they would go ahead and reverse their decision (especially after the deposit deadline), but if you think otherwise then so be it.DebtIsAmyth wrote:It's actually very much not true if you do just a little bit of research. BU came back to me with absolutely zero $. Even though my scores are identical to those who have received 18-25K/yr. I tried to negotiate but they said they aren't giving out any more $ until after the first deposit deadline. Looks like they are trying hard to keep their scores up after receiving that Top 20 score. In a school where the majority of students receive some sort of financial assistance, to receive nothing is quite disappointing.

Does anyone know if BU gives travel stipends? Live in CA and want to visit but obviously it would be an expensive trip.

Hi! I'm from California too. Are you set on going to BU? I'm a little nervous about going somewhere so cold lol.niguel wrote:Same. 25K/year. LSAT > 75, GPA ~ 50.DebtIsAmyth wrote:Scholly info received via snail mail 6 days after admit email

Also tried (w/o any expectations) negotiating scholly w/ Loyola & Hastings offers but didn't get a raise. Figures though haha.
And did anyone who got accepted get written comments about their personal statements?

Has anyone here written an LOCI to BU before receiving a decision?
BU is my absolute number one choice (as in I might take off a year if I don't get in) so i want to be as proactive as possible and my applications hasn't even gone into review yet.

No, unless I get more money I probably won't end up going to BU. I agree with user 16to19 about the Boston weather. I did my undergrad in NE and, except for one year, the weather wasn't too bad. Temperature never seemed to drop below 30 all to often, and rarely into the 20s. (someone can fact check this for me) Obviously CA weather is better, but I wouldn't make it a huge deal in your decision, unlike if you were looking at upstate NY or Midwest schools.16to19 wrote:As a Bostonian, I think the fears about our cold winters are overblown. Yes, I got written comments about my PS as well. Cynical side of me says they do this for everyone, but maybe ours were really good.

Also, I'm from the west coast as well, and for the ASD (preview day) event they offered me a travel stipend to attend. I don't know if they'd be willing to give travel stipends outside of ASD events but worth a shot to ask!

Well if it makes 3 of us w/ personal comments, that sounds like everyone.
There goes feeling a little special lol.
Glad to hear fellow west coast people saying the weather is bearable
I just remember going there during college for a Model UN conference and feeling my shins hurt from the cold...
