GPA<25% and LSAT right on the median. They offered 60k total. Did I get really lucky? From reading others' posts, I feel like I shouldn't even get this much. I am asking because I want to get an idea of how much room there is for negotiating.

I feel like they offered small amounts to get rid of the uninterested applicant pool. Then, as more money becomes available and negations start happening, they can hand out money to those who actually would attend the school and aren't using them for negotiation bait at other schools. It's my two cents, but with law school admissions who really knows?

I just took a quick look at LSN and I saw someone with a 173 3.48 get only 90k. That makes no sense. He/she will be accepted at a t-14 and will not consider USC at 90k at all. The only way he/she will consider USC is with a full or near full ride. They are better of rejecting or waitlisting these people for yield protection like UCLA does..

That can't be true right? I got 105k with a 167 and 3.65

Hi Hikkomorist! That 173 3.48 w/ 90k is me...I definitely agree this is their version of YP in a way - although they seem quite open to negotiation and invited me to actively ask for more money if I want...I have received better offers from a couple T14s and have my heart set on one school in particular...Sigh...the joys of applying to law school!!

Particularly when you consider that USC's tuition is as high or *higher* than a lot of the T14, even if you're paying out-of-state. I really wanted to stay in CA, but it's going to be hard to justify if I can go to Northwestern for the same cost as staying here.

There was a second round of skype interviews for Rothman candidates a week ago, I think. I decided not to participate.

Is this credited? Recently received a solid scholarship offer that explicitly stated I was still being considered for the Rothman. Haven't had any Skype interview and till now wasn't aware this was a part of it.

Was there ever a "first round" of said interviews, let alone a second?

I'm also still "decision finalized" w no email. There is nothing listed under mailings and no changes to deposits or anything. I'm preparing myself for a ding.

Really, I think it's just the same story as it is every cycle: CA schools are addicted to GPA.

Anyone know the reason(s) for this?

An interesting reply (not mine) from another forum:

I'd imagine at least part of it has to do with Proposition 209 (banning affirmative action in public schools). Since CA public schools could no longer give an "URM boost", they started to weigh GPA more than LSAT so they could continue to admit a diverse student body.

As for why USC does the same - CA is fairly unique in having more public than private T1 law schools. I'd imagine there is a trickle-down effect where most CA private schools have to compete with a public school for the same applicant. Since the public schools admit based on GPA, private schools need to give scholarships to high GPA applicants to lure them away.

Complete 1/7 without movement here. Lots of people out there with longer than that - you have a while until you've reached "abnormal."

I'm also wondering how they are determining their scholarships offers. I got 120k with a 166 and 3.78. Not complaining though since this school is one of my top choices lol
