Some lawyers at the Law Firm where I work suggested that i do that. What are your thoughts on this?
Before a decision has been rendered? Ding. Pretty much the definition of it, in my opinion.

Does anybody think it would be worth my while to send in an update in regards to my recent (last week) graduation with magna cum laude honors? Does this count as a "major" update? I'm thinking no, but it would be nice to hear from you guys.

Are you sure these lawyers want you to go to Harvard?

I don't think she'd intentionally give me bad advice. She is a relatively young lawyer(30). But I'll just hold off on sending any type of LOCI or update

Just unintentionally. Seriously, that advice only requires the application of the "sniff test." Maybe one of the most ill-advised potential "updates" I've ever heard.

Dear Harvard, I've received $$$$ from a top 10 school and I hope that you admit me and put me in the position of choosing no debt or an HLS degree! I'm a safe candidate! Pick me!

Definitely do this. The HLS blog post on being held specifically cites final grades as a major update. The latin honors can only help in this case.

To be fair to him and to those lawyers, I was given the same advice by people who would know. (HYS professors, etc.)

Please explain to me how money offers from other T14 schools would make her more attractive to Harvard? Honest question.

I'd say unnamed scholarship offers are irrelevant, but say this person was offered a Ruby a Hamilton and a Darrow. Say it had been some time since they submitted their Harvard app and had been put on hold or hadn't heard anything. Say there also is some other relevant piece of info - say a major award. Okay, now you can send an update and slip in the success with other schools in the larger statement and then say something like "Harvard is clearly my number one choice, and mention my success with xxxx only in hopes that it demonstrates xxxxxx."

Point is, take it however you'd like. I have been told this by several professors that I respect and trust. Professors who sit on the admissions committee at different T14 schools.

Of course, there is always a chance none of those people like me.

Hey, interested outsider here with an off-topic question. Does it feel like people with lower LSATs are getting into HLS this year? Like the fall in the # of applicants is making things slightly easier?

You and everyone else. No one here knows. It reminds me of a Sabermetrics article I read on baseball the difference between hitting 275 and 300 over the course of a season is about 12 hits. It's a big difference between hitting 275 and 300. It would also be nearly impossible for the most fervent observer who watched every game but had no stats to be able to tell the difference. Follow me?

Not that that is going to stop people from offering opinions.

The effect that early Disney-Pixar films has had on our generation is not to be underestimated.

Jokes aside, I would like to bet money that this wouldn't go well.
Seriously.
Did an experiment with Columbia, a law professor there told me to do the same thing, ie: tastefully tout acceptances from peer schools. So far no response yet. I wouldn't risk it on Harvard but I am ambivalent toward Columbia and it seemed worth looking into, I will let everyone know what the result is. If it works at CLS and Harvard gives me the WL, I'll go for broke and try it with them, too.
