I tried negotiating using BU and W&M scholarships which weren't as high as my Fordham offer, but close. And both BU and W&M would be lower total COA because of CoL, to the tune of 30k-45k total for three years.

I was denied.

To anybody who has had movement from the waitlist: Did you send a LOCI? Or visit the school? Basically...did you do anything that you felt helped you move off the waitlist?

Did you negotiate via email? If so I would recommend a follow up phone call, and depending on your numbers they may get a little more generous later in the cycle. It's still early so they don't yet know what they will NEED.

edit: checked your numbers. If you already have more at Fordham than BU and W&M (which really holds next to no negotiating weight with Fordham) then I probably wouldn't expect more. Fordham doesn't have a ton of money to throw around.

Hi-does anyone know if scholarship offers come in the first email, or on the official letter via snail mail? Thanks.

Mine came in a separate email a couple of weeks after I was accepted. You won't get anything about your scholarship via snail mail, as the email referenced a Fordham Green Initiative.

WL at Fordham (as of a couple of weeks ago). One of the questions on the survey monkey (!) response is Would you like to be considered for day/evening/both. Does anyone have a sample first-year evening schedule? I have considered the idea of attending the evening program. My only issue is that I am married with kids. I am afraid that working days and going to school nights, with the reading fitting somewhere in between, will probably make me a distant memory to the little ones. I'm trying to get an understanding of what it would actually look like.

I asked the school already, and they referred me to the view book, which lists the classes but does not show what the schedule looks like. I actually have a pretty sweet job now, which could potentially lead to a GC gig. If I can make it work it might make sense to hold onto it anyway, perhaps with a reduction in hours. With 15 years WE the evening program would probably be more my peer group anyway. Trying to figure out if there is a way it could all make sense.

I presume everyone is aware of LSN, but just in case, it really does paint a very accurate picture of Fordham's scholarship offers:

I did an MBA at Fordham while working full-time and it was a killer. I'd leave my apartment at 7 in the morning, study and work all day, then be home by about 10:30-11 at night.
When I go to law school, I will not work a full-time job, because I'd like to watch my kids grow up.

ehh I looked at last years class and it's kind of confusing..

165/3.64, gets a $30,000 scholly, then a 166/3.73 166/3.8 166/3.69 all get $15,000..

Personally I don't see myself getting anything and I'm just happy I got in but still living in NYC & paying full tuition soudns like a lot of debt to undertake.

Waitlist question here: I've noted on threads from prior application cycles that some have mentioned a priority waitlist? Is that still something Fordham practices? If so, how does one tell if they are on a priority waitlist or not?

In via e-mail today!

So we find out about merit aid via e-mail about two weeks after admission? The admitted students' website says that you hear about merit aid "upon admission," but that is obviously pretty vague.

Got this email today:

Your application has been received and we look forward to reviewing it. Your application will stay in an incomplete status pending receipt of your December LSAT scores from LSAC. If for some reason you chose not to complete your December LSAT, please let us know and we will move your application to a complete status.
If you did take the December LSAT there is no need to reply to this email, LSAC will be forwarding us your scores shortly.

I took the December LSAT but cancelled. Should I email them or what?

I'd call the admissions office, just for quicker confirmation.

Not only that, any chance for personal contact should be utilized. Try to extend the conversation, make a connection. Tell them how you really want to go to Fordham and why it's your first choice. (though, dont rehash your app - make it personal). That's bound to improve your chances.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Yeah 2010-2011 indicates that they're pretty stingy with scholarships. It's pretty black and white for me. If Fordham isn't willing to offer decent $$ based on my scholarship offers at peer schools and acceptance(s) at T-14s, they're out of the running.

Based on what you've got so far (and assuming nothing changes), you've got two decisions to make:
1) Do you really, really want to be in NYC?*
It's reputationally comparable to W&M and a step down from UVA.
You'll be paying an extra $6k/year in living expenses (at least) and if you qualify for in-state, an extra $6k/year for tuition compared to UVA, bringing the total additional cost to $36k - or $123k vs W&M.
2) If Virginia, do you think UVA is worth paying $87k more than going to W&M? That's serious cash.

Edit: I didn't notice your grant offer at W&L. Go there.
Unless you've got rich relatives willing to pick up the tab, that's an offer that's hard to beat

*this is a long-term decision. If you go to Fordham, you're more likely to start your career in NYC, whereas UVA/W&M I would expect you're more likely to stay in the south, or DC (disclaimer - I have no knowledge whatsoever of placement data for UVA/W&M so while this statement is logical, I don't know if it is true)

Note: I'd choose Fordham at sticker over UVA at sticker, but my reasons are particular to my personal situation

If you wish to break into the NYC market, Fordham's a better bet than half the T-14.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
