Checking in for the first time. Complete 12/13.. not expecting anything too soon but the anxiety is still unreal. I have serious doubts Yale would accept me but I am still holding on to hope! I also reread my 250 recently and also think it somehow got way worse.. oh well

I love you, Yale, but I only wish that you might notify the auto-rejects earlier so that we wouldn't retain the hope. It's a lot worse to have a hope dashed that you have been carrying for awhile!

I received an email on 12/5 from Yale saying that they've received my application and that it may take up to 4 weeks to process my application and that they'd email me when my application was complete and ready for review. I haven't anything from them since then. Does anyone have an idea when I might hear back?

Apologies if this is a newb question.....and thanks in advance.

Well, I finally decided to submit my app. I hate my 250 less now than I have at any other time over the past two months and I've waited long enough, so I figured I might as well just send it already. Looking forward to my inevitable rejection!

You will get an email when your application is "complete." From what I can tell, it seems like acceptances tend to come a little more than a month after that email (IF you're accepted), and rejections/waitlists tend to come 2 or 3 months after. Anyone feel free to correct me if that is wrong...

Either way, I think some applicants should be due for good news this week! Fingers crossed...

Acceptances can take longer than that. It's a very slow and excruciating process. Doesn't bother most people though because most don't hold out hope. It's kinda an afterthought. Also, people legitimately hanging on to hope usually have H, S or both under their belt, so they tend to be extra mellow about the whole deal.

Elendil, I don't think we'll be hearing anything for awhile, unless you are an Asha-autoadmit. Autorejects and those undergoing faculty review, historically, don't hear anything until February. Lots of information about this on their site and I think there is a helpful graph supporting this on the first page of this thread.

"There is no correlation between when you are admitted and whether you were a presumptive admit or read by faculty (I really don't see why this would make any difference once you are admitted, but anyway). Both I and the members of the faculty are reading files from early fall into April. So, it's entirely possible for an application to make it through a round of three faculty readers by December, just as it is possible for me to admit someone directly in the spring (it would be kind of odd, wouldn't it, if a must-have applicant applied on February 15 and I had no choice but to send the person to the faculty gamble?)."

Wait, she wants us to believe that if we regressed the date applicants are admitted on whether or not the applicants are auto-admit or faculty review, we would find ZERO correlation?

I get her point that if an auto-admit submits his/her application at the end of the admission cycle, and thus after people who submitted at the beginning of the admission cycle have already had time to get through the faculty review process, the late applying auto-admit will hear after early applying non-auto-admits. But that is not "no correlation."

The acceptances that come in December are sparse. There is typically a glut of acceptances and rejects late in January and another late in February. This makes me (and others) think that those admits and rejects were faculty-reviewed or auto-rejects. I suppose it is possible that she hands out faculty review files one at a time in a little trickle, but I somehow doubt this. On a side note, there was a delay in the applications this year due to a glitch, so that could have changed the timeline a little. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

"This class has collectively lived or worked in:" "And can read and speak the following languages:"

This may or may not be hypothetical. This may or may not apply to me . Although my LSAT score is within Yale's range, my GPA is below Yale's 25th percentile, so I assumed auto-reject, and therefore I have not applied.

I haven't applied either (softs not up to par, I've decided I'll just resign myself to lurking longingly in the Yale thread...sigh), but, no, I really don't think language or birthplace would be a major boost. The decentralized admissions process makes it unlikely that different readers would know which nationalities/languages are already represented, and, more importantly, they have a lot more relevant factors to consider. If where you lived or the languages you can speak is tied to a great soft or can be turned into an awesome PS, then maybe they can help, but in and of themselves, I doubt it.

I disagree. Languages and background tend to be pretty important softs - but yes, you have to actually contextualize them.

Still working away at my 250. Goal is to have it in on the 20th.
