Did anyone attend the Admitted Students day in LA yesterday or any of the admitted students events recently that wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts? Thanks!

Just got an email estimating 12k in grants and 20k in low-interest loans. Very excited about the grants.

Yeah, the "low interest loan" is just the usual student loan everyone gets isn't it? W made a big deal about the "low interest" thing too... like, everyone gets those...Bearlegdairy wrote:Just got an email estimating 12k in grants and 20k in low-interest loans. Very excited about the grants.

Yeah, don't really care about that one. But I didn't even get any grants from Hawaii, and they're ranked 95th in the nation. So 12k from Davis is exciting!Aggiegrad2011 wrote:Yeah, the "low interest loan" is just the usual student loan everyone gets isn't it? Congrats! Is the low interest thing just a Perkins loan?Bearlegdairy wrote:Yeah, don't really care about that one. But I didn't even get any grants from Hawaii, and they're ranked 95th in the nation. You bet, I was thrilled out of my mind when I got 25k in grant from UCD and it greatly complicated my decision. =/Bearlegdairy wrote:Yeah, don't really care about that one. When i first went into evaluation on 2/15 i figured there was still room for me to squeeze in. But now i figure this late they have no room for a 3.5/161. This sucks but still hoping for a miracle.

Re: UC Davis 2011
Really happy for all the people receiving grants but unfortunately I'm not one of them (my parents make too much money even though and even though I've been independent from them for 5 years I don't qualify) so my question is this.
Davis at sticker
or
Santa Clara with a 13,500 a year
no housing costs at either (covered under a private scholarship that goes only for housing)
appreciate your responses.
the other option is Boulder with the 12/4/4 scholarship.

This isn't even worth discussing. Davis 100% if those are your only options.TruePeace10 wrote:Really happy for all the people receiving grants but unfortunately I'm not one of them (my parents make too much money even though and even though I've been independent from them for 5 years I don't qualify) so my question is this.

I'm in the same boat as you. Do you think we have a shot at tacking some merit-based aid on top of that? Does Davis really give out any? I'm planning on calling tomorrow unless you or anyone knows...Aggiegrad2011 wrote:You bet, I was thrilled out of my mind when I got 25k in grant from UCD and it greatly complicated my decision. =/

I spoke with finaid office to see if they have my prelim grant info the other day (i did not receive an email for some reason). I also asked them about merit aid and they told me to speak with admissions. From that conversation, it sounded like they do provide merit aid. As to the amount of money they would provide, I don't know.
If possible, can you let me (us) know? I plan to send them an email in a couple of days so I have something in writing.
Hope that helps at least a little.

I feel those still waiting, but congrats to those that have been accepted!
Sent app in mid-November, went complete December and in evaluation since beginning/mid-February. This topic has probably already been covered, but any experience/advice on sending an LOCI before a decision has been made? Is this even a good idea at all?

I was just told by Admissions that if you didn't receive anything from the admittance package then you won't be getting anything.lhlee wrote:If possible, can you let me (us) know? I plan to send them an email in a couple of days so I have something in writing.

Good luck! I tried to leverage my many other offers but haven't had any success. I was told that they give out some merit aid initially (it's with acceptances and usually quite early in the cycle) and then if there's some left as people withdraw they may redistribute it...jwmalone87 wrote:I was just told by Admissions that if you didn't receive anything from the admittance package then you won't be getting anything.I have a decent offer from BC that I'll forward their way and see if I get at least something back...

I certainly don't think it would hurt. Shows it's not just another school you applied to in the case you don't get in somewhere else. They'll add it to your file and consider everything you send when making the decision.mpai wrote:I feel those still waiting, but congrats to those that have been accepted!

Re: UC Davis 2011
so i went complete in december, but am still awaiting evaluation. it seems kinda unfair that even though i submitted earlier, im going to get screwed due to the rolling admissions process because of my mediocre numbers. shouldn't they place ppl under evaluation based on when they go complete? im confused

I've heard great things about Chautauqua, Glacier Point, the Arbors, Aspen Village, and Sycamore Lane. They're filling up pretty quickly, it seems, but the reviews have been almost universally positive.80884 wrote:I'm now looking for an apartment and a roommate/roommates, any idea?

Yeah, it's definitely not cool. I was getting frustrated after being in review for a month and a half. I can't imagine being complete for almost four months, especially with deadlines for other schools coming up.clarebear726 wrote:so i went complete in december, but am still awaiting evaluation. it seems kinda unfair that even though i submitted earlier, im going to get screwed due to the rolling admissions process because of my mediocre numbers. shouldn't they place ppl under evaluation based on when they go complete? im confused

Check out the new apartments they are putting in on campus. They are called West Village (The Ramble is the student building). They are really amazing and will just be opening up this Fall. Pricing is also really affordable and no more expensive than a lot of other places in town.80884 wrote:I'm now looking for an apartment and a roommate/roommates, any idea?

Well, I don't know if it means anything that you went into evaluation this late in the cycle, but I was under evaluation for over a month and got admitted with a decent sized scholarship. So right now you don't have anything to worry about as far as your time under evaluation is concerned.calgirl27 wrote:ive been "evaluation in progress" for like 2-3 weeks. is this normal? is it a bad sign? :/

I went complete 1st week of January and still awaiting eval as well. I called the admissions office last week and the woman told me that they will let everyone know by the end of April, but they will be working in it the whole month. In terms of the rolling app, the website says "Files are read in random order and evaluation begins only after the application file is completed." Not sure, but maybe this is why they are taking so long?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
