Take it easy. Just because one school moves quickly on your app does not mean another will. If you want to complain, check out the Cornell thread

How do you know if they will offer any money? Is it unlikely with a 167, 3.0?

sorry but i would be shocked if they gave you any money, even if you were a resident - and residents get major bonus points with scholly money at UMN. you are from CA, so my answer is no way.nelaw2010 wrote:How do you know if they will offer any money? Is it unlikely with a 167, 3.0?

Went complete 10/15 and ready for review 10/16.
I was in review 11/19, 11/29, 12/03, 12/16 and now I have been moved again to 01/14!
MN is a reach for me (3.79 & 157) but why have they not rejected me yet?
I am a resident, so perhaps that helps. I am also URM.
But really, should I think that I will get accepted since no rejection yet? How much can we read into these things, if at all?
I am really just wanting to know? MN, show me some love! I'm putting up with -21 degree wind chill today and I still want to stay!

Geez those are a lot of dates! My 2 cents - I think that shows that they are actually considering you. Based on your numbers alone, I wouldn't be surprised if you just got dinged automatically. All those review dates, to me, shows that they see something that they like despite your bad LSAT - at least enough to give you multiple reads. URM good, resident good, GPA good, it could still definitely go either way though. Good luck!

I think that it means that you are in the URM pile of applicants and your decision could go either way. Maybe the school has set aside a certain amount of scholarship money for URMs & wants to examine all URM candidates with below median numbers before making decisions & offering merit money. This is, however, just a guess.

I've applied to 9 schools and heard from 0. I thought UMN might at least be a quick decision, but I guess not...Jen Loblaw wrote:good to hear I'm not the only 12/17er left behinddcwumpus wrote:IR 12/17. No call. Boo.

Ohhhhh my status also changed! From 12/17 to 1/21. I think it changed couple times before that as well.
Does anyone know how overseas-applicant friendly is UMN? I am not sure how popular the school is among international students but it's definitely one of my top choices (and reaches), I don't want them to think I'm just throwing applications to all the schools.
I pretty much got rejected by all the reaches and UMN is one of the few left...really hope to hear from them soon!

that's good to know, i don't have a gpa and my lsat is low 160s, so it's closer to 25% than median...still hopeful though. thanks!Chouchous wrote:FWIW I'm an international applicant as well and I was accepted last year, numbers below median.

Hey, this may be a bit off topic, but does anyone know much about how the UMN students use their supplied laptops?
I can't find it right now but I remember reading about how Minnesota supplies Lenovo laptops to all of their students to ensure that everyone has the right software/hardware/configuration for presentations and such.
Anyway, I just bought a new laptop and was wondering if the students use their supplied computers as their primary/only computer or if they use it only for presentations and what not.
Any info on student preference is helpful. Thanks.
P.S. Updated to In Review 1/21
