Do you think it would be cool to send in my own translation of a legal passage from Livy or Cicero or just more annoying paperwork for them?
I doubt this will any effect whatsoever. It's safe to assume that the person who will receive your LOCI is not trained in classical languages, so they will have no way of appraising the quality of your translation.

I think your best bet would be to submit an additional Why Mich specifically about the UM Classics Dept, i.e. how you think study of legal history and philosophy will be enriched by your facility with Latin and the University's world-class Latin department.

Glad other people are still completely in the dark about this. I've only had my checker a few days, so I was pretty worried since it looked like they were daily updates ._.

Yeah, this. No one wants to read a translated passage of Cicero, especially given how much pointless shit they already have to read. Just tie in the classics dpt stuff into your loci.

So as far as we can tell on TLS, no one has updated today?
Some people were rejected via status checker but the majority of us are complete but without a date change despite the bottom of the page saying date updated Feb 27

I'd be skeptical of assigning any meaning to that woeful status checker. I received a decision on Thursday (Feb 23) but my last update is Feb 25th. Nothing changed.

Can't lie, waking up and almost instinctively checking the SC and then remembering that I don't need to anymore kind of felt good. Someone PM me something if WL action starts and I haven't popped back in, but I'm gonna go live freely for the first time in months damnit

While I agree that sending in a translation probably won't do much for you, I think doing something quirky but tasteful might be good, like composing a short (1 sentence) phrase or something like that. I mean, you're on the wait list, so the odds aren't great anyways. It might not hurt to stand out a little by doing something different.

Still, I have nothing to back this up, other than to say that Dean Z commented on the only quirky thing on my resume. Reading her blog, she doesn't seem frumpy or super straight laced. Figure out what you have to lose, then see if the risk is worth it.

I wasn't even aware you could major in Latin. That's nuts.

I think all my uni has is classical studies, which is either Latin or Greek and then random stuff.

Long enough for me to build my fort, obvs.

Real answer: I'm probably going to wait a few weeks, since they won't be reviewing WLers for a while. And looking at the 2011 WL thread fills me with dread, so I'm going to take my sweet time crafting it.

And/or just admit that for my crappy GPA & LSAT, it was nice to even make the WL. 8)

I will, however, continue to add randomness to this thread.

This. Yeah, I was thinking a week or so. Or whenever I get a chance to write a respectable one. I currently have half of one, but idk. It's meh.

@T00L I don't think you can be too early, honestly. We're probably gonna be sitting in that pile for awhile, though.

I would like to apply to be on the architectural board for the construction of the fort. Not to brag, but whenever I have to do that team building exercise where you have to build the tallest free-standing structure out of spaghetti noodles and mini marshmallows, my team ALWAYS wins.

If by this you mean it's been 8-9 weeks since you applied and you still have no status checker I would contact the admissions office. I've heard of people waiting 5-6 weeks but it shouldn't take this long and there might be something missing from your file or they may have made some sort of error when processing your application.

Dear Mich,
People say Berkeley's application process is weird, but at least it is somewhat predictable. NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON BEHIND THE FACELESS STATUS CHECKER.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
