To clarify for smoneill, Michigan generally posts scholarship awards in the mail and money section of the Admitted Students Website around 2 weeks after your status checker switches to acceptance. For me it was closer to 3 weeks. They also send a letter with the scholarship info and I didn't get that till 4-5 weeks after I was accepted. So, if you haven't, check your ASW. If you've already looked there, they probably won't be offering anything. I'd wait to negotiate for another couple weeks, because they sent me an email saying they make scholarship decisions within 6 weeks of acceptance, so if you try to negotiate before that, they may say they haven't finished reviewing you for awards.Adm.Doppleganger wrote:Within 2 weeks is the word on the street.imjustjoking22 wrote:Within 2 weeks? I'm not sure that's true...UnamSanctam wrote:You would have heard back within 2 weeks if they were going to offer you money. It's not Michigan's practice to negotiate scholarship money once they make the offer, but the exception to this rule is those who are offered nothing yet have money from a peer school. In that case, it's worth attempting to negotiate, but I'm not sure if you'll end up getting anything out of them.smoneill88 wrote:hey guys, not to break the chain of distress that seems to being goin on in this thread right now, but i was accepted about a month ago and was wondering when i should expect to start hearing word about scholarships? and if i should have heard by now, when you think i should start reaching out to try and get some?
thank you

thanks everyone for the advice (especially you aekea). i'll reach out in a few weeks to see if i can pull a little $ from them. i did check the website and no offers in my inbox...
i'm 99% sure i'll be attending michigan (unless i get in to USC with a big scholly, then i'll think about that for a few min, then attend michigan), so hopefully i can get a little bit of scholly.

<--Current 2L at Michigan.
The school says they don't negotiate scholarships, but they will if you have a competitive one from somewhere else. As with all of these schools, it doesn't hurt to ask. I never asked because my better scholarships were from the likes of USC and UCLA.

Supposedly have a "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter" mailed 2/17 that has STILL not arrived. I will be a disaster until it does.

Congrats.imjustjoking22 wrote:Supposedly have a "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter" mailed 2/17 that has STILL not arrived. I will be a disaster until it does.
And remember, there's really no such thing as bad news in a "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter".

Mich, I love you for giving me any money after I told admissions over the phone that I would attend even if I got nothing.

Usually always update by 9 AM, today I'm stuck on 2/25, though the bottom left says updated 2/27. Probably nothing, but a guy can hope, right?

That would be last Monday, and it was also a holiday. It looked like most people updated by 9:00 a.m. then as well. We know it's probably nothing, but it's fun to hope.

My friend just told me he got rejected this morning. Maybe there will be some movement for us.

Same here. Pardon my ignorance, but does the lack of an update typically mean a decision is forthcoming? If so, is it likely an acceptance? Obviously there is some skepticism above because of the past few Mondays, but I'm on pins and needles here!
If some people have already been rejected today via status checker, does that mean those of us still waiting on an update have escaped the ding (for today, at least)?
Thanks for the help! I've been lurking for a while, but this is enough to bring me out of the woodwork!
