Re: Villanova 2010
i might send in my deposit even before i visit. thats how i'm sure of my decision now.
i'm sure with the new building the gap between Temple and Nova is bound to increase.
I think it might be safe to say Nova would become the second best law school in philly after Penn. And assuming Penn grads go to NYC or DC, Nova takes the cake at philly.
I plan on visiting sometime next week (hopefully).

Just so you know, a new building isn't going to change anything between Villanova and Temple. Temple has 8500 practicing alumni in Philadelphia, and without some monumental change, it's going to stay that way. Villanova is a great school, but Temple just has such a strong tradition and reputation that it's unlikely to change much. Marginal changes in ranking are relatively irrelevant.nooyyllib wrote:

I was just at Temple, nobody there is very worried about finding a job because of the ridiculousness of their alumni network. A 3L said he just sent out a couple resumes to alumni, and got hooked up in a few weeks.
Despite their higher ranking, Temple is still the stronger school in Philadelphia, and will be for awhile. Villanova is still great, and ports around much nicer than Temple from the alumni I've talked to. You won't go wrong at either, it's just that the Temple network is that good.

Historically, new buildings have driven up rankings because of higher application rates and thus higher selectivity.beach_terror wrote:Just so you know, a new building isn't going to change anything between Villanova and Temple. Come onnn Villanova. You're the last school that I would go to that I'm waiting to hear back from! I've review since 3/18. Is the long wait a sign of bad things to come?

I was under review 1/19 and was accepted on 3/25.. so no, I wouldn't put much thought into it.yeahyeah2121 wrote:Come onnn Villanova. You're the last school that I would go to that I'm waiting to hear back from! I've review since 3/18. Is the long wait a sign of bad things to come?

Yeah, Villanova takes awhile... if anything consider it a good thing. I went complete 11/25 and didn't hear until late February.um08 wrote:I was under review 1/19 and was accepted on 3/25.. so no, I wouldn't put much thought into it.yeahyeah2121 wrote:Come onnn Villanova. Just called Admissions...I've been "In Review" for a month and was asked to provide the date I applied. When I said early Feb, (02/04 to be exact) I was told a decision was expected by the end of April.

Just put on the waitlist at Villanova, which, considering my stats (158/3.1) is more than I had hoped for.

Re: Villanova 2010
Villanova is making me very grouchy! I've been complete since 1/20, and when I called today, I was told I should hear by the end of the month. Almost every law school has seen an increase in applications, but Villanova seems to be the only one that cannot make decisions in a reasonable amount of time. I submitted by application in mid-January--I expected a decision by 4/1 at the latest. Are they completely ignorant of the fact that other schools require deposits by 4/1 and 4/15? And to add to the aggravation, I was also informed that they aren't awarding any more merit aid until after 4/15. Again, Villanova is not prestigious enough to make us wait this long! Uggghhhh.mhd08 wrote:+1 I've been in review since 3/15 and I was also told to expect a decision by the end of April.pjog wrote:Just called Admissions...I've been "In Review" for a month and was asked to provide the date I applied. I feel a bit better now...

Yeah I've been complete since 1/25.
No fun :'(, I hope they like me. Looking at LSN they don't seem to have really changed their admissions standards too much since last year. I'm hoping that they don't because if they do, then the change will mean they won't accept people with my stats which they previously did.
Temple is making me wait too, they accepted my friend who applied after me without having looked at my application. Although I don't expect to get into Temple.
^^^^That's my version of complaining.

Is it more difficult to get into Temple than Villanova?dmb26 wrote:Yeah I've been complete since 1/25.

I was waitlisted at Temple and admitted to Villanova, even though others with my stats or worse have gotten in, fwiw. I'm out of state though, so I'd likely choose Villanova over Temple anyways.Emac wrote:Is it more difficult to get into Temple than Villanova?dmb26 wrote:Yeah I've been complete since 1/25.

I would say if it is, its only marginally. IMO Temple only gets more apps because its cheaper over all and draws a lot more apps from in state people.Emac wrote:Is it more difficult to get into Temple than Villanova?dmb26 wrote:Yeah I've been complete since 1/25.

Got into Villanova, WL'd at Temple. I'd say it's slightly harder, yeah.

Got into both with same $$ though temple is top 1/2, nova is top 1/3. Its different for everyone and depends a lot on when you apply I would imagine. (then again who knows what goes through the adcoms heads sometimes).beach_terror wrote:Got into Villanova, WL'd at Temple. I'd say it's slightly harder, yeah.

Just for the record, I was a fringe applicant at 3.2/159. I was just speaking from the chance of getting in, not cash money or anything.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
