Dean Pless,
I appreciate your previous answer. I was also curious as to how an arrest(s) are viewed. Is a previous misdemeanor viewed negatively or if it's not serious, pretty much disregarded? How much of your concern is due to the applicant's inferred judgment or about the applicant's ability to pass the bar upon graduation? Also, do you significantly differentiate between simply being charged or convicted? For instance, would three misdemeanor charges with no convictions being troubling or would this candidate be viewed as one with a clean record? Sorry for the barrage of questions.

Re: Illinois 2010!
It really depends on the alleged offense. I look at the seriousness of the offense, any patterns of behavior and how recently they occurred. So, an underage drinking violation - not a concern. Three of them with a disorderly conduct - a concern. It also matters how you explain what happened. Your explanation needs to be clear, complete and not filled with excuses. I have had a couple of applicants this year with DUI's and one sentence explanations. That isn't going to cut it. With an admission we are inviting you into our community, I need to be sure of just what kind of person I am inviting in.MarkRenton wrote:Dean Pless,

Dean Pless,
For the applicants placed on hold, should we treat this like a waitlist? That is, would it be prudent to send LOCI's, additional LOR's, etc., or would this just be viewed as extra and unnecessary work for the Admissions Committee?

Dean Pless,
If I mailed an addition on Monday, what is the probability it will be reviewed? My file is currently "in review." Thank you.

We put those into the file on the same day that we receive them, so I am sure it will be reviewed.Zojirushi wrote:Dean Pless,

Re: Illinois 2010!
Not quite. I will start creating a Wait List in February. As in past years, you will have to opt on to the list after receiving notification. At that point in time a LOCI would be appropriate. As always, I will try to keep the WL as short as possible, but I think there is even more uncertainty this year, so I can't make too many promises.ccs1702 wrote:Dean Pless,

I feel like I just learned something truly meaningful about the admissions process that had eluded me until now.Pless wrote:Not quite. I will start creating a Wait List in February. I think he said that's when they will start reviewing them again. I don't think we should expect anything until mid-Feb.clint4law wrote:I'm pretty sure those on hold will find out 2 weeks from tomorrow.......but only Dean P can confirm that.robin600 wrote:Ok so like the 29th then, thanks!ccs1702 wrote:No. Not until the end of the month at the earliest.robin600 wrote:Pless should held applicants expect a decision next friday?

Re: Illinois 2010!
Decisions will be out this afternoon, over 300 of them.
There won't be any decisions sent out next week (22nd) because I will be at a conference and it is a short week. We will have a large batch of decisions on the 29th and I will post the dates of completion for that batch this afternoon. If you are currently on hold your file will receive its second review the week of February 1 with decisions on February 5th.
