The New York Times had a great article about Austin this weekend in the Travel section: http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/11/29/tr ... l?emc=eta1

Pretty interesting for those of us who haven't lived there. I'm looking forward to exploring Austin next year - definitely loved my visit to Barton Springs.

I think UT is changing the way they give scholarships this year. I called the admissions and asked the about how they are doing scholarships, and the lady told me that they have several different cutoffs, beginning at 167. But if you look at last year's LSN cycle, people (URMs) got scholarships with 164s. Some things are definitely changing this year at UT if you ask me.

As a Texas native I know I'm biased, but I love Austin. Have been a UT football fan my whole life and always traveled there for games. I live in another city in Texas and really enjoy visiting. While Westwood and surrounding suburbs are probably really similar to other big cities, the downtown and school area are definitely not! Perhaps the haters are shut ins, but for those of us who know how to have a good time Austin is an ideal city. College spirit is rampant and the night life is amazing.

PS - anybody else going to Pasadena??? HOOK EM!

I saw that article. I thought it was pretty cool to read about Austin outside of the downtown / 6th street areas. Lots of focus on East Austin and SoCo.

I am not going to keep going back and forth on this, though I do enjoy the fact that people seem to think it is necessary to keep going back to it.

I'm a Texas native, and if anyone who has never lived here would like a dissenting opinion on why Austin and Texas suck in general, feel free to PM me. I can provide a weekend's worth of reading on the subject.

However, UT is an excellent school despite its location, and congratulations to all who get accepted.

I had a definite mention of scholarships in my voicemail but haven't received anything yet (admitted 11/16). Seems like the others admitted then have already gotten their info... hmmmm

Accepted the same day, and they mailed out my scholarship information on 11/24. I'll put $5 on the line that you get the letter tomorrow (offer must be accepted within next 10 minutes).

For you who got scholarships, did your scholarship offer come with your acceptance package or sometime after?

About a week after the acceptance.

Did you get your acceptance package somewhat recently? Also, did your acceptance package mention anything about scholarships?

Thank you!

Edit: Never mind, I see you were one of the first to post in here.

Anyone who recently received their acceptance/scholarship willing to answer?

I really appreciate it.

Anybody else at or near 167/3.7+ without a scholarship offer? I was accepted the first week of November.

I applied about 2 weeks ago and haven't received a username or password for the status checker. I did get an email saying they received my application. How long did it it take for you all to get a link to the status checker? Sorry, not sure if this was mentioned in this thread.

Congrats, I've also been accepted on a full ride also but don't think i'm gonna stay. I'm an undergrad here and hate the gunner atmosphere at the school. I'm president of phi alpha delta Pre-Law Chapter and know most of the UT undergrads that got in and kinda get that feeling. I could put you in contact with some current students if you like. Admissions will put you in contact with their "cheerleaders". Basically the workstudy ones that "have" to tell you all the good stuff.lol.Cost of living is WAY lower here than the other schools I got into but with mostly full rides may not be a factor I hope.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
