You could lol or maybe a 2 bedroom splitting rent for 800 a month
That's what I love about these Austin rents, man. They get higher, and I stay the same wage.
LMAO

A 1-bedroom *anything* in central Austin? If you're financing COL through loans... yikes. I would save myself the commute and get a roomie or two.

Yea I guess that what I'm going to have to do. I thought about getting a roommate before, but I kind of wanted to live on my own the first year, and then try to find some friends to room with for 2l and 3l.
If could afford 850 a month

Austin rent is pretty much comparable to Houston/Dallas imo.

Congrats!
Thank you! And in response to this housing thread, I am actually stoked at the prospect of paying Austin rent prices. Currently living in Boston paying 1550 (this is considered very, very cheap for the city...and 1550 is a reduced price because I got the apartment last minute!shouldve been 1700, apparently) for a small, non-centrally located 1 bedroom with mice

And then I have a sister living in South Texas paying 700 for a luxury 1 bedroom apartment with a gate and a pool...lol. The price we pay to live in big cities!

I was looking for like $1000 max, but preferably around $850. I haven't looked on the south side of Austin. I was warned to avoid it due to traffic, but I might have to go a bit farther from the campus so that I can get a better apartment for a more reasonable price because the one you linked looks great for that rent.
I found one really close to the campus for $900. The inside looks nice, but the outside is, uh, a bit weird.

There are a bunch of ones that look like this near campus! Idk what the deal is lol. Haven't been in this building but most of the weird looking ones are usually just fine on the inside. That's a solid location too, far enough from undergrads and close to campus.

Late March at the very end of my cycle. IIRC, once Texas offers you their reconsidered scholarship, you have 5 days to accept it and matriculate, or else your scholarship offer is withdrawn. So it'll be the last one I renegotiate.

Do you feel it's necessary to include an unsolicited "Why Texas" if I already alluded briefly to my interest in Texas in the personal statement? I don't want it to be overkill.
Are you OOS?
Yep--- Northeast
They'll solicit one from you if they're interested. For now it's probably overkill. Is it a reach for you (feel free to PM me)?
As a reverse splitter, it's hard to gauge but yeah I would say so. I figured that I'd try my hand at it though. Not expecting much, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised lol.

Out of curiosity, where exactly in TX does UT mostly place (BL-wise) & does anyone know the outcome of median students at UT, generally?

houston's the biggest market followed by dallas followed by austin, i think
median supposedly is less than a coin flip's chance at biglaw and is variable depending on your own interviewing skills/hustle/etc. (so can go either way)

One more question: any idea what ranking of the class generally is considered the "safe zone" for BL? (Top 30%, top 20%, etc?)

San Antonio isn't bigger for BL than Austin?

Sent my solicited OOS Why Texas last night and did not receive a receipt of transmission. I'm guessing since it went directly to SRR I shouldn't expect some automated response.

So I was reading of the welcome letters and they mention something about all students being placed in societies......? Is this similar to sections or...? Are the societies theme-based or something? Can someone explain what these societies are?

Looks like they're separate from your sections, more of a social and networking group.

Very interesting. I don't think I've seen any other schools mention something like this. Kind of cool.... Forced bonding of law students

Can confirm, they're separate from sections, more of a social/networking thing. Source: my current UT 1L roommate lol

Does your UT roommate seem to like it?
It seems like a really nice idea, especially since it not only connects 1Ls to other 1Ls, but to upperclassmen and faculty as well. Plus, it's a nice way to remind law students to have fun every now and then lol.
It kinda piques my interest in the school more...

Anyone get an email/going to the Houston admitted student reception? It's next week and I'm likely to go unless I can't find someone to cover my shift at work.
