For once, that neurotic comment (mine) was not meant seriously.potterotter wrote:I don't think so. Some applications beg more questions than others, and some people (like me) give long responses to everything ever, so a shorter interview could just be a combination of you being concise and them not having many questions (neither of which are bad things)xn3345 wrote:Baby Gaga wrote:Mine was exactly 20 mins 5 sec

My sarcasm can be a little opaque, especially on internet forums. My fault. (It wasn't even funny. I was just procrastinating.)potterotter wrote:Well then!xn3345 wrote:For once, that neurotic comment (mine) was not meant seriously.potterotter wrote:I don't think so. I don't think a Whyx for Columbia is necessary for anyone. It is a T6 school, they know that if they accept you that they will be one of the top choices.LawschoolHopeful2k16 wrote:My understanding is that a why x for Columbia is pointless. Is that correct?
FWIW, my GPA and lsat almost guarantee that I'll be waitlisted (lsn says like 90% of people in my range are waitlisted and 10% rejected).
I was thinking that since I have no amazing reason for why Columbia (other than it being a kick-ass school and wanting to work in NYC) it makes even less sense to write a why Columbia. Plus since I'll be waitlisted, I should write a LOCI and that might actually get read and if I wrote a why Columbia not only would that not help me out but it might use up some of the material I'd write about in the LOCI.
Does this make sense or is this a dumb idea?
I think if you have some sort of deep tie to the city it doesn't hurt to mention it, but if it's more a " nyc is cool and I want to live there" situation I wouldn't worry overly much about it until/ if you're in a loci situationjjcorvino wrote:I don't think a Whyx for Columbia is necessary for anyone. Yeah I wrote about my ties to the city and a certain professor who is there, and some other things that fit into my UG studies and what I want to do as a lawyerThelaw23 wrote:I think a Why Columbia makes sense due to the fact that there is a school 30 minutes away from it, in NYC, with almost identical employment statistics and ranking.
But everybody is also right that you probably need to have some ties to the city and concrete reasons for wanting to go there if you are writing the Why essay.

No, I haven't received anything either. I am also waiting for the email with more info, like email and PIN to login to admitted students website, but so far nothing.combatboots33 wrote:Has anyone who was accepted ED heard anything from Columbia after receiving the acceptance email? My understanding is that past cycles had have first RD decisions come out around January 20th, if that helps.lauren22 wrote:I had my interview last week and it was way friendlier and more laid-back than I expected. She said that decisions usually start coming out in January - does anyone have any other information about when those usually start rolling out? (Non ED)
