Would UCLA consider Vanderbilt a "peer" school for negotiating?

They're typically adjacent in rankings, I don't see why not. Of course, they're both pretty regional and those regions are on opposite ends of the country.Lawgirl101 wrote:Would UCLA consider Vanderbilt a "peer" school for negotiating?

If you want to send a LOCI (esp if you didn't write a Why UCLA), sure why not?still wrote:its been over 3months since going complete for me

To ask, hey where's my decision at? No, that will annoy them.

Are many other admits still waiting for scholarship info? The first round of offers went out, but I am still waiting to hear. Any word?

I haven't heard anything, but I'm a recent admit (and a late apply...applied 1/26, complete 2/3, admit 3/5).miraclewhip wrote:Are many other admits still waiting for scholarship info? The first round of offers went out, but I am still waiting to hear. Any word?

I was thinking about sending in an LOCI because i've heard nothing but silence and here's what my admission counselor said for those of you are are thinking about doing it!
I highly recommend that you DO NOT send a letter of continued interest unless you have been notified of getting placed on wait list status. This is when letters of continued interest are appropriate—you're notifying the school that despite being wait listed, you would still commit to their program should they be able to extend an offer of admission. Sending such a letter prematurely (without notification of a decision one way or the other), has the potential to negatively affect how the admissions committee concludes their review of your application. You've already put in great effort in visiting and speaking with the dean; let fate take its course and patiently wait for a decision to be made before initiating any continued communication with the admissions office.

I received my need-aid and they clarified that it was in addition to the merit aid. Just wanted to update you since I had the same wording.iron tulip wrote:Hi Folks. Probably being a touch lazy here, since I could probably google this information, so I apologize in advanced. I was wondering about this sentence in the Scholarship email:
"This award will include any need-based law grant you may receive from the UCLA School of Law Office of Financial Aid."
Does this mean that the total merit aid - is the maximum grant aid received, irrespective of any need-based grants? So if you a 20k offer, and a 10k need based grant, you don't receive 30k, but 20k. However, looking at UCLA's 509, a number of students received grant/merit aid above the value of a free ride.
Apologies again.

yes they are peers but if you want to work in Southern California, Vanderbilt won't give you much leverage. You would need a t-14 for example.

I haven't heard anything, and I was accepted 11/17. Should we be asking around? In one of the emails I received from UCLA, they said to contact Robert Schwartz if we had any questions about scholarship offers or if we wanted to share offers from other schools. Several other similarly ranked schools are already sending me offers. Should I let them know?morningstar wrote:I haven't heard anything, but I'm a recent admit (and a late apply...applied 1/26, complete 2/3, admit 3/5).miraclewhip wrote:Are many other admits still waiting for scholarship info? Honestly, I would say for all still waiting on scholarship info (who have the same submit/admit dates as those aero already received theirs) that it wouldn't hurt to send them an email asking them to consider your application for merit aid especially if you have offers from peer schools. I successfully solicited a scholarship offer without receiving one in the "first wave," so I don't see what you have to lose if you do contact them about scholarships.PN-G bamakid wrote:I haven't heard anything, and I was accepted 11/17. Accepted 1/15 and no merit scholly email, only need based so far. Just emailed Rob Schwartz asking about merit scholarship. I mentioned that USC and WUSTL each gave me 120k (I also got 75k from vandy but I did not mention that in the hopes they would negotiate based on the higher offers). Ill let you guys know how it goes.

I'm in almost the same position debating whether I should email Dean Schwartz to solicit a scholarship or wait for the next "wave". I'm dying to know how it went for you.imcgrattan12 wrote:He emailed me back immediately lol. I guess I'm gonna chat with him on the phone tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.
