Is Regents worth?
I am a big regents proponent but other people I know have gotten burned pretty hard by them. I have a HUGE studio and my gas/electric is only like $50 per month, and with internet/gym and other utilities all included I think I don't really overpay that much. Especially given that most other buildings around hyde park that are cheaper don't have full time maintenance staff or doormen. I think the package they offer is totally worth it but just know that it's definitely not the cheapest option out there, although I don't think it's as overpriced as some seem to think it is.

If you have the time and inclination come look at regents and other places before you choose. If not, I think it's a great option since so many people live here and you can sign a lease over the phone and know almost everything that you're getting. Shoreland is probably the nicest alternative but probably not cheaper. Also check out Del Prado and Scholar's Corner.

Internet is fairly slow, but netflix is fine and video games aren't terrible.

Since you ED'd I hope you're looking at keeping your rent down for the next three years. Everyone should.

I think admissions offers a small amount to ED applicants but just know that you probably won't be getting much more than 20-30k at the highest. They have no reason to give you more. But maybe they'll read this and want to prove me wrong.

But you have no negotiation power. You are obligated to attend if you choose to go this year.

Then I'm not sure what you are hoping to receive in aid, but I'll keep my fingers crossed and maybe they will act differently than their track record in the past.

I'm in the same boat re:ED and hoping for a little aid. From what I've read the usual range is $15-30k but not all ED admits get it.

This is definitely the right expectation.

Is Regents worth?
The biggest problem living at Regents (or anywhere in HP FWIW) is the commute to get down to the awesome parts of Chicago. HP has gotten better over the last couple years, and the travel on the 6 (or an uber) isn't as bad as people say it is, it can still be a pain.

Oh, and I ED'd too. Don't justify things w/ salary to debt loads or anything like that. It's going to be a fuck ton of money in any event. I did what I could to keep the cost down and I'm still pretty freaked out graduating <150k. Have fun and all, but keep in mind how much goddamn money this shit costs.

Clearly I suck at internet.

Why do people ED? It's literally one of the most incomprehensible aspects of law school admissions. Perhaps you are all rich?

It never hurts to be rich, but ED also can improve admissions chances if you're a marginal candidate or a super splitter. So, in some cases, it does make perfect sense.

The way I see it, marginally improved admissions prospects do not justify complete loss of flexibility and ability to negotiate offers. Call me crazy.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
