3.98, 171, top 25 undergrad, submitted day 1. Still haven't heard of an admission via status checker. Getting worried. Any thoughts?

Congrats! So you found out about money same time they told you you got in? I heard some schools (including UVA) will accept people and then wait a few weeks before deciding on money.harttrek1 wrote:In via phone call this morning with $$$. First day submit, very excited! 4/170
Are you a Virginia resident, if I may ask?

Yeah, your going to get waitlisted unless you wrote a why UVA. So if you really want to go, Id write a why UVA, but I bet you dont really want to go.
Also, Im sure you are already aware of this, which is why I am wondering why you bothered to post this.

Why do you think so? I certainly didn't write a "Why UVA".kingjones59 wrote:bruwinning24 wrote:3.98, 171, top 25 undergrad, submitted day 1. Still haven't heard of an admission via status checker. Getting worried. Any thoughts?

UVA does the YP thing more than most other T14s.danitt wrote:Why do you think so? I certainly didn't write a "Why UVA".kingjones59 wrote:bruwinning24 wrote:3.98, 171, top 25 undergrad, submitted day 1. Still haven't heard of an admission via status checker. Getting worried. Any thoughts?

This. They most likely won't waste increasing their acceptance ratio on you unless they are atleast fairly confident you will attend.

Yep the phone call included all I needed to know moving forward, including ful scholarship information. I am not a VA resident, and I wrote a why UVA and submitted first day. Thanks very much!2012Split177 wrote:Congrats! So you found out about money same time they told you you got in? Received a phone call at 10 am CST from the dean offering me admission and $30,000 a year to attend! Super excited.
169/4.14/non-URM. Applied first day and submitted Why UVA essay.

Perhaps, but I think they're going to stick to their original plan at the beginning at least. UVA is going to be super cagey about admitting people who it thinks will choose a higher ranked school, Berkeley will be as fanatical as ever about GPA with its early admits, etc.Wormfather wrote:
I think you're right. With applications to be down schools might be afraid of playing the yield protection game this cycle.

As someone with an LSAT that is right at or just below median for many of the t14, I'm actually kind of glad for YP. Maybe it will keep me from spending months on a waitlist at a bunch of different schools.

Wow! That's awesome, congratulations! You give me hope. I split the other way, with a less-than-impressive 3.3 but a 177. Turned in my application a couple weeks ago. If I get in I'll be lucky to get $$, but if I got even half what you received I'd count myself a very happy person.kfischm1 wrote:Received a phone call at 10 am CST from the dean offering me admission and $30,000 a year to attend!
