I signed up for brunch. I'm going out of town that day and need to be on the road by late afternoon.

Judging by the previous posts on here, it appears that pretty much everyone gets that at some point regardless, or at least I am pretty sure. But I suppose the answer to your question is yes. Anything beats getting outright dinged lol.dvjn69 wrote:They must have done a new round of acceptances today, I moved into the FRNDR status.... I guess its better than being completely dinged at this point, right?

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but it is odd that you haven't been accepted here yet. I recognize your username from the FSU thread, where you said you received money from them. I have already gotten into UF, and I was in one of the first waves of acceptances at FSU, and the deadline for scholarships has already passed, and I received nothing lol. So if that is any indication, you should get into UF.jabberwock12 wrote:Next week will be my third month in frndr purgatory. WINNING! ... and by winning I mean losing.

Was your letter delivered in Gainesville today? Just want to know if I should bother checking the mail... I thought that us locals would've gotten letters first, and it seems some people got their letters on Saturday.UMiamiCane wrote:My husband just called- I got a scholly offer in the mail. $27,000 total!!!!! If you are able to actually refrain from checking your mail every day, sometimes twice, like an OCD freakshow.... then you are a stronger man than I.seancris wrote:Was your letter delivered in Gainesville today? Ever since I've applied to law schools, I've been checking the mail more than I ever have in my entire life.

More interested in the today part than the Gainesville part. Feeling a wierd mix of emotions right now. On one hand hopeful, imagining how ecstatic I'd be if I got an offer today. On other hand seething at the idea that I'm about to be valedictorian at their undergrad and they might not give me a merit-based offer at all.UMiamiCane wrote:Yes, Gainesville.seancris wrote:Was your letter delivered in Gainesville today? $#@* law school admissions/finances.
But congrats to everyone so far, I'm really happy for (and yet extremely jealous of) all of you.

Oh sorry, yes today. Contrats about being valedictorian- that's impressive. I really do hope you get money from UF.

Do they have a scholarship preference for non-UF grads or something? My index is significantly higher than everyone who's gotten an offer in this batch, and higher than a lot of the last batch... I hope I just have a really slow mail man.
Either way, I submitted a packet with a new resume, full-tuition offer from stetson, along with a cover letter that reads more like a LOCI today in panic mode. I would prefer not to spend the next year waiting tables and studying for 3 more points on the LSAT. Not paying 21k/yr at UF law, though.

I'm betting you just have slow mail. You might also take a visit to the law school and speak with an admissions counselor.seancris wrote:Do they have a scholarship preference for non-UF grads or something? If you're trying to work in the Tampa Bay area, that full-ride from Stetson is something to seriously consider. It isn't expensive to live in Gulfport/St. Pete, if you know what you're doing.

Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Working for a year and retaking makes sense from my POV. CoL is so low in Gainesville that I could put away a few hundred a month while studying for the LSAT... on gameday I scored 5 points lower than my preptest average, and I only studied for a month or so. I just didn't feel like taking it again, and figured it was alright since Florida was my goal and people with my numbers supposedly got decent $$$ from Florida according to LSN. Pretty confident I could get a 166 or better with proper prep. 166/4.0 should put me in 30k territory, combined with my savings + saved earnings from next year would reduce the debt to a really manageable level, much better than what I ever expected to get in scholly offers from UF this cycle.benburns214 wrote:To skip a year JUST to retake the LSAT and HOPE you get a mere 3 points higher for the sole purpose of getting more money is foolish in my opinion... Take the LSAT, Apply, Go to the best school you get into (most of the time).seancris wrote:Do they have a scholarship preference for non-UF grads or something? But... if you really want to wait tables for a year just because you think you deserve to pay less money, then do it.
I dont mean to rant... But i have been reading this opinion from alot of TLS'ers and it is simply foolish.
Stetson's a great place, but unfortunately my wife is finishing her degree in Gainesville next year so we'd have a really tough call to make. It's not off the table but I'd have to find a way to make it work and it's nowhere near ideal.
I appreciate the input, guys. Fingers still crossed for a slow mail man. TBH I don't even think mine came today lol, I was stalking the mailbox pretty hardcore after UMiami said she got her letter today.

Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I need to correct what I wrote earlier. The scholarship is guaranteed the first two semesters (not years as I wrote) and then renewable for the second and third years.
Seancris- I went to UF for grad school if that counts for anything. I finished undergrad almost seven years ago and have been working in law enforcement since. I don't know if my softs have anything to do my scholarship- I really wasn't expecting $9,000. If I were you, with that 4.0 and nice LSAT score, I wouldn't be too worried about not getting any money. Hopefully it will come tomorrow.
Also, if you do decide to go to Stetson while your wife is finishing her degree here- one year in the scheme of things isn't too bad. My husband took a job in Philly for 14 months when he graduated. He flew back three times a month until he found a new job.

Interesting, I guess UF is doing stips too. To clarify, does the offer say that its renewable if you maintain a certain GPA? Or that its renewable in the sense that you can reapply along with everyone else in hopes of getting it again?
