I understand asking for a better scholarship when a comparable school has offered you more, but how does it work if I was trying to get PSU to give me 20k a year instead of 10k to match Temple's in-state tuition? Do schools view this as a realistic request or not?

I'd say in this situation you should email me directly and let me look at your particular situation. As someone who lived for several years in the Art Museum/Fairmount area I can tell you firsthand that there are benefits to being in State College.Dippy wrote:I understand asking for a better scholarship when a comparable school has offered you more, but how does it work if I was trying to get PSU to give me 20k a year instead of 10k to match Temple's in-state tuition? Ah, I've lived in that area as well. Good times, depending on where you are.PSULawAdmissionsDean wrote:I'd say in this situation you should email me directly and let me look at your particular situation. Re: Penn State 2011 Applicants
For admission we review the entire application to determine whether an offer is appropriate. As I've indicated earlier, scholarships are awarded primarily based on your likelihood of success and meaningful academinc contribution to the law school community. Primarily this will be gauged on how well you did on the LSAT and during your undergraduate education. If your LSAT is much below our median you might not expect a significant merit award. There are some exceptions and if you feel you deserve special scholarship consideration because of a particular life experience or perspective that you being to the class, feel free to email me.StillHerexxx wrote:Is there any hope for a scholarship, or acceptance for that matter, with a low end lsat and well above 75th percentile gpa? How important are the supplementary materials and resume?

Just got my packet in the mail.....$10K per year. Not as much as I'd have hoped but still decent considering my GPA. Will be looking to visiting Penn State in March!

Re: Penn State 2011 Applicants
this may be a random question, my status checker says my application is currently "under review", but there shows nothing under my mailings. Is that supposed to be a bad sign?

I would think it was a worse sign if you were Decision Rendered without any mailings. I don't have mailings listed under any schools where I'm UR.mink1656 wrote:this may be a random question, my status checker says my application is currently "under review", but there shows nothing under my mailings. People who were accepted today, when did you go UR? I'm UR 1/21, and heard it's kind of a long wait.

Recieved my packet in the mail today. 5K per year scholarship. I think I will end up staying closer to home.

Hello Dean, I applied in December and went complete in early January. However, my status did not change to "Under Review" almost after three and half weeks. On the other hand, I know some people who went complete after me are already "Under Review". How would that be possible?

Accepted at University Park. Trying to decide between Penn State and Villanova. Any thoughts, anyone?

Re: Penn State 2011 Applicants
I would pick Penn State. They have a pretty good national recognition and alum base. Both are def regional though. From what I've seen, seems like Penn State offers more money than Nova. Also, Nova just admitted they cooked the numbers for a few years so they have that issue to deal with.lillawyer18 wrote:Accepted at University Park. Trying to decide between Penn State and Villanova. Re: Penn State 2011 Applicants
While our process is fairly standardized we do have a number of admission committee members reading at any given time. Some move quicker than others in making decisions. This can affect how quickly any particular file moves through the process. Don't be surprised if some of your fellow applicants go UR and then get a decision within a few days and others seeimingly sit for several weeks. If you look back through this thread you'll see it very clearly.kartal wrote:Hello Dean, I applied in December and went complete in early January. The fact is some files are easier to make decisions on than others. Sometimes a file that seems to be wallowing is in a better position than it seems because we're giving it multiple reviews. If your file seems idle for more than 3 weeks or so feel free to send me an email and I'll check it's status specifically. Most of the time it's fine but occasionally it's worth giving a reader a nudge or checking the intake process. As a parting note, I'd remind you that we are at the peak of our season and things may move more slowly than any other time during the admissions cycle. Again always feel free to email me directly if you are worried about your application.

Re: Penn State 2011 Applicants
Decided to withdraw my application today -- I don't really have any interest in moving back to PA, and I got into better schools with $ already, so I don't want to play this waiting game. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
