Re: Chicago Kent - Prospective Class of 2014
i received a similar email from Rutgers Camden earlier today but for some summer program that leads into a full time program sort of deal. I figured it was a last minute ploy to boost their stats so I ignored it.

Yeah, I think I might apply just because their app is free but, I'm not really expecting anything out of it. It was just weird to receive. Especially since it didnt come with any stips, like a summer program.

I got the same email yesterday. I did think it was odd because I never applied to kent and people have deposited by now.StacyStrong wrote:Yeah, I think I might apply just because their app is free but, I'm not really expecting anything out of it. Hey guys, I have been in review since 3/15. It's been 2 months, is this a bad sign or a good sign?

Re: Chicago Kent - Prospective Class of 2014
does anyone know if chicago kent has a policy on their scholarships if you transfer out? i read somewhere that sometimes if you transfer out of a school the scholarship you received your first year turns into a loan and you have to pay it back.
also, for anyone who deposited and is waiting on for a waitlisted school. is their any repercussions if you accept the scholarship and federal loans and then back out from attending the school because you got into a waitlisted school?

I'm assuming they are emailing people that never applied who have a certain LSAT score. Maybe they haven't reached the median they want for their scores. it obviously still sucks for those WL but that's prob why.Jessuf wrote:Nope, no penalty.kimheami wrote:does anyone know if chicago kent has a policy on their scholarships if you transfer out? i read somewhere that sometimes if you transfer out of a school the scholarship you received your first year turns into a loan and you have to pay it back.

Also, I wish they would accept some more of the deferred applicants (and offer them $$) instead of e-mailing people who never even applied and offering them scholarships.
What do people send to schools they are on the WL at other than additional LORs, updated transcripts and LOCIs? I can get one more LOR and of course send LOCIs, but I'm not doing anything new with my time, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago, etc.
if you're not doing anything new then just send LOCI and if you have any additional LORs that might tip the scales in your favor.

I don't know if you have already done this, but I am WL at my top choice and have done the things listed above my only other suggestion is to go see the school in person and meet with the admissions comitee in person, and or retake the LSAT to have something new to twll them. (which sucks, I would know, who wants to take the LSAT just to get off a WL)Jessuf wrote:Nope, no penalty.kimheami wrote:does anyone know if chicago kent has a policy on their scholarships if you transfer out? i read somewhere that sometimes if you transfer out of a school the scholarship you received your first year turns into a loan and you have to pay it back.

Accepted yesterday with a cycle changing scholarship. Now I'm scrambling to find a plane ticket to Chicago for the Dean's program next Thursday. Anyone else going?

Re: Chicago Kent - Prospective Class of 2014
I was deferred back in Feb and was accepted to the full-time program a few weeks ago. Kent offered me the 20k scholly with stips and after emailing Dean Krent they threw in a a first year 5k grant. I thought that was generous until I saw a few people in here receiving a 25k grant with stips and a 10k grant after talking to Dean Krent. When I tried to negotiate for a higher amount, Dean Krent said they are now tapped out in scholarships. I'm still not sure since I have put down a deposit at Loyola, DePaul, and Kent. Has anyone else been told this while negotiation their financial aid package?
Also, where are people looking at in terms of housing? I would like to get a studio somewhere near campus.

Re: Chicago Kent - Prospective Class of 2014
I find it very hard to believe that they are actually tapped out with scholarship money. Without me even asking for a monetary increase (I asked for stipulation reduction), Kent went from offering me $15k/year to $20k and then finally to $25k/year with a $10k grant the first year (so a $20k increase from their initial offer for the first year) and my numbers aren't even that great! So I think its a case of that you aren't a hot enough commodity to increase their offer (sorry). Kent offering many of us on TLS such enticing offers comes from their hope that many of us choose the GPA dependent offer and then don't meet it. That, to me, means that their scholarship fund is pretty flexible and they can offer a ton up front. Keep to your guns IMO. Pit Loyola and DePaul against Kent's offer.bvenkat8325 wrote:I was deferred back in Feb and was accepted to the full-time program a few weeks ago. I too have put down deposits at both Loyola and Kent. I sent Dean B @ Loyola an email basically saying "look, unless you increase my scholarship offer, I'm going to go to Kent because they made me this offer" and the reply was a flat "no". It's incredible...even if I only got the first year scholarship @ Kent and then had to pay full tuition for the next two years, I would still come out of Kent cheaper than if I retained my full scholarship at Loyola for 3 years.

Does anyone know what the COA is with living?
I'm dumb and can't find it on their website.
Alsooooo, do they send out financial aid packages that list your loan options and all that?

Has anyone been successful is attaining either how many students receive the stipulation based scholarship offer or even what the retention rate is? I have had trouble getting a clear answer on either one of these.

To keep the full thing, I think 30% of the students meet the requirement. And I think about 50% meet the requirement for half.
It's on their website though, so I'd double check.
