There are a lot of Asians in the East End, many of them college students. But the city is 3.5% Asian overall, and most of them are concentrated within a couple neighborhoods. That being said, Bedsole is right. Around Pitt and CMU, there are Asians everywhere. Most of Pittsburgh's Asian community lives in Squirrel Hill, a predominantly Jewish neighborhood.Bedsole wrote: If you go here, you will spend most of your time in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and most importantly, Oakland. You will have no reason to believe that the bolded text is true. The building I live in is more asian than white, and anywhere near Carnegie Mellon is the same thing... and it's literally just down the street from Pitt.

Which is awesome if you have yellow fever. I met a nice Chinese girl not long after I moved to Pittsburgh, and we're still dating.HeavenWood wrote:There are a lot of Asians in the East End, many of them college students. I rarely drive anywhere. I take the bus whenever I can, which is pretty much all the time. I usually only drive when I am going to Waterfront or during off hours when parking is more available. The bus system is pretty good, although some parts of town don't get the frequent service that others get. I can hop one of 3-4 buses to school in the morning, and there's a grocery store across the street. School is a 10-15 minute bus ride away, and if I take a bus on the busway (right behind my apartment) downtown if about 15 minutes. If I take a regular street bus, it's more like 30.kk19131 wrote:You drive to school? How is the public transportation system?Bedsole wrote:

While that is probably good advice in most situations, an MBA from Tepper is pretty awesome. The CMU name carries a lot of weight around here and to have it on a resume will look a lot more impressive than the average pitt law resume.kk19131 wrote:jdhakert wrote:Is it worth it to get an MBA from Tepper as well as a Pitt JD? This was my original plan, and I'm still thinking that it would be the wise choice, but I just wanted some opinions of those who attend Pitt/ live in Pgh.
It's not usually ever worth getting a jd/mba unless you plan to get a job that specifically would require you to have the combo.
I don't think a Katz MBA would be worth the time or money, but Tepper adds something special.

I live on the other side of the city and I ride the bus every day. I'm fine with it but a 45 minute bus ride to get somewhere a 10 minute drive from campus is not for everyone.kk19131 wrote:You drive to school? How is the public transportation system?Bedsole wrote:

Also, public transportation funding in Pennsylvania is horrible. I was amazed at how they fund, or rather don't fund, public transit. The Port Authority has cut service or raised rates three times since I got here last summer. That said, it's not something you'll need to worry about too much because if you're in the neighborhoods we've all talked about then you'll definitely have access to quite a bit of public transit or you can easily walk to school.

Having a car is not absolutely necessary, but if you enjoy mountain biking, hiking, golfing, and other exurban activities (which Pittsburgh has tons of), a car is a nice luxury.Bedsole wrote: +1. I don't usually walk, but I can. In fact, I did today.

Pitt is having internet trouble today, so don't stress too much. I had to sit in Civ Pro and pray I didn't get cold called because I couldn't update my OneNote, so I had no notes at all from my reading for last night. If going another day without a decision makes you as stressed as that should, then you should get a prescription.
