Looks like the coast is clear for now, might be another onslaught tomorrow though, who knows.jd2014! wrote:So I have been hiding from my email and all of you since holds starting going out and I lit my hair on fire. I survived the slaughter, but don't know weather to be relieved or sad. Probably the latter, since no hold likely = ding or WL (which = ding essentially). This is crazy. But so many people haven't heard anything! They can't WL or reject all of us, can they?
Is it over yet? Or are they still sending these things out?

Held. Complete on nov. 8. 4.3 index. This is just too perplexing. I mean there appears to be no order (not in terms of complete dates or indexes). I also don't get what the bloody difference is between a hold and a waitlist??????

Would it be advantageous for those of us who haven't been held to shoot LOCIs to CLS?

There's no way cls wants/expects locis from holds. That would be wayyy to many letters for them to receive/read

Re: Columbia 2011!
I'm following the trend and turning my "Hold" spreadsheet into a form too.
If you've been held, fill this form out!
https://spreadsheets0.google.com/viewfo ... c6MQ#gid=0
Results:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... y=CJCcv50J
If you've already posted your numbers before in this thread or you've PMed me, don't fill out the form

Raise your hand if it feels like Columbia Law School just gave us all a huge middle finger?
I don't know what the heck is going on over there, but this whole "holding" business has gotten me genuinely frustrated for the first time, really, in this entire cycle.

I'm going to call them tomorrow to ask about LOCIs and all that jazz. This is so absurd. If they do not consider us until past the Feb. 15th deadline, that is NOT "under active consideration." UGH.

Re: Columbia 2011!
I don't think this is a mix-up; they just sent out admit packets to those they wanted to admit. Not all of us (held applicants) have auto-admit numbers like them, though a healthy percentage in this group look pretty safe to me...
Regardless, I think it's a sign of CLS being very cautious about its admissions this year: YP for a lot of these candidates, a real and true "hold" for some, and throwing the ball in the applicants' court for others -- particularly those who are cross-admitted to peer schools/got funding elsewhere.
These statistics -- acceptance rate, yield, etc -- are so manipulated by all top law schools, it's appalling.

Holy shit, when I saw that this thread had jumped from page 215 when I left work this afternoon to 240, I knew something had happened.
The hold #s make NO SENSE. I cannot believe what is happening here.

I thought I looked at it earlier, but maybe I can't count- there really were a lot more admits on LSN at this time last year? Or am I still not counting properly? lol
I'm glad this is taking my mind off TWO interviews tomorrow.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Man, do we really think Columbia is holding people to "test" their interest in their school? And, in doing so, protect their yield protection? If so, that's pretty effed up--I would thinking sending an application in should be enough to tell them "Yes, I am interested in going here."
As far as sending a LOCI, I don't think I'm going to. I DID send one to Harvard, but that's because Harvard's "held" email opened the door to a LOCI, whereas I don't see the same invitation in Columbia's letter.
Gah!

I don't know if I'm happier with no hold and no admit, or if I'd be happier with a hold.
