Trying to get to Dallas or thereabouts, right? I hear you on that one.
Yes. It's so hard because I absolutely love the city, and definitely see myself practicing there long term. ahhhh decisions decisions.
I only know three 1Ls who want to live/work in texas after graduation. One is working paid in-house position at Monsanto here in St. Louis, one is going to Locke Lord (Texas) for the summer, and the last one has an appellate judicial internship with the Texas Court of Appeals in Dallas. I don't have the packet because I was too lazy to go to the OCI meeting, but we were all given a list of the firms coming to our OCI this August. Perhaps Sublime or another 1L could tell you the Texas-offices that are showing up
As far as SMU v. WUSTL, we send people to Texas, but it's hard to pinpoint your exact chances since only a handful of people in each class even want to go to Texas. SMU on its own isn't a slam dunk for Texas BigLaw, you'll need good grades. WUSTL will give you other market options in case you miss Texas or you change your mind. But I guess that's only relevant if you would consider other markets. If you're 100% certain you
only want Texas, then perhaps it's better to go all-in with SMU and make sure you get the requisite grades. (If you don't get the grades and miss out on a Texas job from SMU, you're
kinda fucked gonna have a hard time)
It comes down to how certain you are that you ONLY want Texas essentially. But we do send grads to Texas, the kid I know who's going to Locke Lord this summer isn't from Texas, just from the South (Don't wanna be too specific).
You are pretty awesome for this! Definitely pinpointed my concerns about SMU. Although I don't see things changing
right now, stuff happens and it very well could in the next three years.

To anyone who negotiated their scholarship; how long did it take to get a response?

Also curious about this for people that have negotiated recently. I attempted a few weeks ago and heard back the next day, but I also attempted a week ago and have had radio silence.

I emailed the day before the deposit, got an immediate response that they would send my app back to the scholarship committee, and have not heard back since. I'm hoping to hear by the end of the week.

If you don't hear back from them by the end of the week, are you going to reach out again? Can't decide if it would seem too pushy.
