barley's dream journal
Date: Monday 10/5/15
Time: Approx. 3:25 am

I was at my parents' house and Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99 was coming over for dinner. There are three brick steps separating two rooms in the house, and apparently the bottom step was slippery and dangerous. So my parents covered the step with this inflatable plastic sheet thing they bought specifically for the occasion and plugged it i so Captain Holt wouldn't slip when he arrived. There was a light-up sign on the sheet saying that if you stepped on it, it would deliver a fatal dose of jellyfish electric poison. I was terrified every time I or someone else went up or down the stairs. Then I figured out a brilliant solution - unplug the device so that it wouldn't deliver the electric poison but people would still think it would and therefore avoid the slippery step (because the sign was still there). It worked!

Generally a peroxide [n-O-O-n] won't make it into a molecule because it would break down too quickly. But this compound is a natural product (meaning they literally found it in nature - looks like in tea / spice, in this case) and something you could never, ever make in the lab.... I get anxiety just thinking about that synthesis.basedvulpes wrote:dumb this down for meJames.K.Polk wrote:I know you guys don't care, but the Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded (maybe you do care about that), and I'm looking at this drug, Artemisinin... So cool. I didn't know a functional drug could really have a peroxide bridge like that! It's crazy.... I wish I could patent it
