I would say yes. Although maybe we should continue this discussion in the "In at GULC" thread...dpk711 wrote:gotcha, thanks for the heads-up, $28,000 is still substantial though, right?c_dubya_s wrote:FYI--merit is not in addition to need. A merit-based scholarship notification tells you that the award "includes all need-based grants." So basically, in order for that number to go up, you'd have to get more than $28,000/yr in merit-based aid (probably not going to happen, given that GULC doesn't give out a ton of merit aid).dpk711 wrote:Received around $28,000/year of need-based grants from Georgetown via email right now -- no word of a merit-scholarship though.

just generated an asw password after updating 3/23 again . . .
they sent an email to my inbox, but the password doesn't work! Is there a lagtime usually? Or could they just be having IT issues?

I interviewed 3/7 - didn't update until 3/17 and now again today. Things haven't moved as quickly after the interview as I'd hopedashleyre wrote:Interviewed 3/14 and still no update...is this normal?

This approximately matches my process. Except I didn't update today.gonediving128 wrote:I interviewed 3/7 - didn't update until 3/17 and now again today. Things haven't moved as quickly after the interview as I'd hopedashleyre wrote:Interviewed 3/14 and still no update...is this normal?

Just received a 35K/year merit scholly via email, I'm not sure why since my numbers are only 172/3.5
also received around 28K/year for need based, does anyone know if these two are combined or does the 35K merit-scholly cover the need based aid?

"Congratulations! I am delighted to contact you with good news. Because of your outstanding academic achievements in combination with your financial need, you have been selected from the entering class of 2011 to receive a Law Center Scholarship award. This scholarship is in combination with any need-based grants you may receive or have received from Georgetown, and is for $45000.00 total for each of three years of study here at the Law Center. "
DID I READ THIS RIGHT? THIS SAYS $45,000 EACH YEAR (TOTAL OF $135,000)... RIGHT?

I'd say so but that is some damn ambiguous language.SirWilliam1022 wrote:"Congratulations! I am delighted to contact you with good news. That would be nice because you'd be getting more than tuition! A stipend to go to GULC, that would be awesome.
I am curious about what the ultimate outcome of these somewhat ambiguously worded award letters will be.

Yeah most definitely, I'm actually going to call GULC tomorrow and find out for all of us.swc65 wrote:dpk711 wrote:Just received a 35K/year merit scholly via email, I'm not sure why since my numbers are only 172/3.5

Re: GULC Waiting Thread
So I called the fin-aid office today to inquire about my need-based and merit-scholly.
1) Bad news is that they won't combine it, my 28,000/year need-based award will merely be included within the $35,000 merit scholly
2) Good news is that they confirmed that it was $35,000 guaranteed per year -- this means that I will receive $105,000 for my three years in GULC
Regardless of the "bad news" I'm very excited since everyone on TLS convinced me that GULC was stingy with $$$ especially with mediocre numbers like me (3.5/172). I was expecting (if I were to attend GULC) that I would go for near sticker price. This is one of the very few instances where I advise you to distance yourself from conventional TLS wisdom.

Just because your result didn't follow convention doesn't mean that people should ignore the conventional wisdom. I have the same numbers as you do and got absolutely no money from GULC.dpk711 wrote:Regardless of the "bad news" I'm very excited since everyone on TLS convinced me that GULC was stingy with $$$ especially with mediocre numbers like me (3.5/172). Similar numbers (173/3.35 with a 177 from Feb) and no money either. Wonder what they liked about dpk's app, or how much if at all financial need played a role in the merit aid.bdubs wrote:Just because your result didn't follow convention doesn't mean that people should ignore the conventional wisdom. Re: GULC Waiting Thread
I'm thinking i might have, but from the phone call it seemed like the office that issued financial need awards was completely separate and independent of the office that gave out merit-awards and they had no idea what each other was doing... the lady at the finaid office had no clue that I received a $35,000/year award even though she checked her database... but who knows?suspicious android wrote:Similar numbers (173/3.35 with a 177 from Feb) and no money either. I updated 3 or 4 times I think. updated once then got request for alumnus interview, then updated after interview, then final update=special preferred wait list. We're at the point in the cycle where everything is unpredictable. Seat deposit deadlines are approaching so seats will be freed up over the next 5 weeks.nakiko2003 wrote:Questions:
