Well, I guess I better hang it up. I feel you on that nice weather though. Best of luck.

Getting? I'm already there. This is the first decision I will likely hear from my top choice schools, unless something is already in the mail.mchrop10 wrote:Getting nervous for Friday...

Pless,
Does Illinois offer a travel stipend for admitted students to attend ASW?
Thanks very much.

We don't. We are happy to arrange it so you may stay with a current student, but we try to funnel all of our resources into scholarships.tram988 wrote:Pless,

Dear Dean Pless,
Two questions:
1. Are decisions announced on the status checker?
2. Do you take into account caliber of an applicant's undergrad institution (i.e. if I went to a school that is notorious for not having grade inflation (read: UChicago))?
Thanks!

Re: Illinois 2010!
I send out emails to everyone before the status checker changes. I usually announce when they are coming out here on TLS. We have been pushing out decisions every Friday. I absolutely take into account the caliber of not only the school, but the program within that school.rjp88 wrote:Dear Dean Pless,

Re: Illinois 2010!
Good for you! Iowa is my top choice so far, WLed at UMN, Notre Dame and Fordham. If Illinois doesn't come through for me (which I'm really hoping it will!!) then I'm not sure what I will do. I'm retaking the LSAT in February, so we'll see. Teach For America is another strong offer I'm considering and Iowa already told me they would defer me for two years if I chose to do so. Who knows at this point.MSUPHL wrote:right now it looks like tulane with some money...decided 100% i want to go somewhere with a nice climate. So sick of this shitty weather. Re: Illinois 2010!
I have seen some conversations about application volume this year, so I thought I would pass on some of the latest information from LSAC. As of 1/9/10 applicants are up 1.7% and applications are up 6.1% from the same time last year.

Thanks Dean Pless. Those numbers are encouraging in contrast to many of the rumors currently floating around.Pless wrote:I have seen some conversations about application volume this year, so I thought I would pass on some of the latest information from LSAC. We will be moving an additional 130 files (or so) into review today for a decision on Friday. All applications that were complete on or before 11/30.

Re: Illinois 2010!
Dean Pless,
I was relatively late in applying (December). I have heard that applying early - in general - improves one's chances of being admitted. How important is applying early at Illinois? If it is important, did I significantly set myself back by applying in mid-December?

Thanks for the update, Dean Pless. Will that batch include many applications that were previously held?Pless wrote:We will be moving an additional 130 files (or so) into review today for a decision on Friday. All applications that were complete on or before 11/30.

Thank you Dean Pless, I'm leaving town for a week on sunday and now will know before I leave and not have to sit the whole trip not knowing. Appreciate all the extra work you have been pushing, even with all this weather. Or perhaps that helps motivate you to stay those long hours knowing how bad it is outside. Either way, thanks!

Re: Illinois 2010!
You are just more likely to end up on the Wait List with a later application. As the pool of admitted students grow, we slow down with new admissions to see how those already admitted will react.MarkRenton wrote:Dean Pless,

No. It includes files that were deferred from our ED process. Holds will get a second look towards the end of the month.JOThompson wrote:Thanks for the update, Dean Pless.
