Got the Faculty Admissions Committee email, too!
File complete 11/28, UR 12/21
Have we decided whether it's ~good or bad~ yet?

As per a TLS interview with the dean, about 500 people get directly admitted by the dean himself. Approximately 1,400 people get sent to the faculty review, of which around 200-250 are offered admission.
So... positive in the sense that we are still in the running! Might as well be optimistic

These odds seem worse than the general odds no?jurisdoctor2020 wrote:As per a TLS interview with the dean, about 500 people get directly admitted by the dean himself. Approximately 1,400 people get sent to the faculty review, of which around 200-250 are offered admission.

Got the same faculty review email...would it be wise to send a LOCI-like letter to them in the meanwhile?

Mathematically, yes. But I'm pulling these numbers from an old interview (c. 2006), so maybe the odds will be better now?addie1412 wrote:These odds seem worse than the general odds no?jurisdoctor2020 wrote:As per a TLS interview with the dean, about 500 people get directly admitted by the dean himself. Ohhh. I guess there's no way of predicting what the odds are like now.jurisdoctor2020 wrote:Mathematically, yes. Thank you!chargers21 wrote:I did some quick calculations, and it looks like odds of getting accepted without FR are about the same (within a few percentage points) as getting accepted with FRjurisdoctor2020 wrote:Mathematically, yes. edit: My math was questionable but I still stand by my overall opinion that people in FR shouldn't worry

Does anyone know if people can get waitlisted without faculty review?

Got the faculty review email too.
I think that the odds should be calculated differently. We have two groups of people, one with faculty review and one without. Let's assume that we have 5000 applicants in total (last year it was 5,100 something) and Berkeley will send 850 offers (500+1400*0.25). Then we have a group of 1,400 applicants with faculty review and about 25% of them will be accepted. Of the remaining 3,600 people, 500 will be accepted, which gives us a 14%ish chance. Then the total acceptance rate became ~17%. If we use the 22% acceptance rate from last year, then Berkeley sent out about 1,200 offers. If the 500 straight acceptance remain true, people under faculty review will have an even better chance.

Same. Above median GPA, also went UR1 on 12/23 and haven't heard anything yet.chargers21 wrote:FWIW, UR 12/23 and I didn't get faculty review. I have a high GPA, which Berkeley apparently favors, as myLSN gives me a 73% chance. Just thought I'd put this info out there

I'm pretty stoked to have a timeline of when they will finalize their decision (Feb 3). Wish more schools could do that lol.

I got a call at 12:41, no voicemail, called back and am in! He said that he had been doing a few calls this morning, so maybe a few more will go out today?
