Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)

Post by Flokkness » Fri Dec 12, 2014 5:01 pm

In by Skype interview with Dean Faulk a few minutes ago. He paused the interview at around halfway through to offer the seat, so it made the latter half of the interview mostly just a fun conversation about being an "old man" (32 y/o) law student and living in Charlottesville, law student housing, a professor I want to meet, etc.

[25th percentile LSAT, 75th percentile GPA, AA male, good WE and small softs, PM with any questions.]

[Applied 11/17, complete on 11/24, interview invite was on 12/8.]

Cribs: Very relaxed interview. Faulk is super chill and at least for me, was really excited to talk about UVA (you should watch his 2013 orientation speech for an idea). Still, bring your best interview game, do your research, wear a suit (if that even needs to be said), take your time and be prepared to answer the obvious Why UVA? as well as some person-specific questions. Biggest tip: know about the UVA community and speak to that. If they're interviewing they seem to really want you, so probably the only ways you can screw up are by being blatantly unprepared, by skipping the interview, or by broadcasting that you're a complete tool who won't mesh well in a collegiate law school environment. And even if you have an offer waiting, it is contingent upon the interview going well, according to Dean Faulk, and that means you still need to kill it... or at least do half-decent, lol.

Good luck ya'll.

Congratulations!!! Thank you for sharing your insight on the interview. If you don't mind sharing, when did you submit/go complete?

Hello. Long time lurker 1st time poster I interviewed back on the 4th (I think it went well) but haven't heard anything. I know a lot of people tend to hear back a day or so after so should I be worried?

A bit worried about merit aid. Don't know if I qualify for much, but sticker is a big price to pay.
Feel free to PM me with more information, and I can try to give you an idea.

Can you or anyone else help clarify what you mean by "really want"? My numbers are not super strong (GPA is way below 25th, but lsat is slightly above 75th). I got a request for interview but I'm guessing I've got no chance at a scholarship. Are interviews for borderline individuals or those they are really trying to recruit?

Not just for borderline individuals. Edited: I believe most people who have been admitted so far has had an interview & it's a good sign. My interviewer said it was for people they were seriously considering for admission.

I am in the same situation for both GPA and LSAT. I went complete 12/1 for what it's worth.

Hey guys,

Did you guys get a complete email at all?

I only got a confirmation email and on the top of my status checker it says: "We have received your application, and because we have received all the necessary components, it will move forward to the review process"

And the status shows like this:

Term:
Year: 2015
Program Time: Full Time
Degree: JD

I took the December LSAT though. Are they holding my application or is this just "complete"?

Thanks

Hey there,

No worries, this is the typical 'complete' for Virginia.
Although, if you put in the app that you are taking Dec. they will most probably wait to review your application until the Dec score is released.

Good luck!

I didn't say that I took the LSAT in December, so they should not be holding it right?

You are correct. As far as I know, I have never heard of a school learning that you are planning to take a future lsat on their own. That's why a lot of the schools ask about it in their application. HOWEVER if you receive your Dec score and it is higher than your previous score make sure you stay on top of LSAC and that they forward the better score report to your schools. They will do this for free. Some schools will not consider it because they will consider your file complete. But many schools will still be happy to see the higher score if they still did not make a decision on your application. It is important to stay on top of LSAC, because even though they claim to update and send a new score report if you are not on top of them it can takes weeks and that can hurt you.

Best of luck!!
