Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure if it was an Austin number but my phone did say it was from Texas (512).patricksouthern wrote:Congrats! I'm a URM, but I got a lot of money from UT with similar numbers.Phoebe3216 wrote:I too got in via phone call today and was told I have a scholarship offer in the mail!!! I am also an instate splitter (high LSAT, low GPA). Now I have the hardest decision ever to make between a full ride + living stipend at Texas Tech and $ (prob not much considering my GPA) at UT. I'm already sitting with an overwhelming amount of undergrad debt, so my biggest concern is not screwing myself over upon graduation. Advice?

If you do not mind, can you tell us when you submitted the application and when you received the "held" e-mail?
Thanks!

My application was processed on October 17 and I was held on November 17. I had pretty much given up hope. I do not expect any scholly but I think I will pay sticker price for UT. My other offer is a near full ride at Baylor. Any adivce?heyman86us wrote:Congrats, FallingHigher.FallingHigher wrote:Thanks for the congrats! Sorry for the delay I went out for a celebratory drink. Congrats!! We pretty much have the same numbers. Unfortunately, I am not a Texas resident so if I got the same scholarship packet it would still be very expensive for me. Hopefully, I can work something out because I would love to go to TexasStylinNProfilin wrote:Congrats to everyone!!!

If you want any chance at a job that TLS seems desirable, UT hands down. If you already had a job lined up or you are ok working in "small law" then I would lean toward Baylor just to save money.FallingHigher wrote:My application was processed on October 17 and I was held on November 17. So from what I gather from this thread is that UT's status checker is pretty... unhelpful, correct?

Yes, it's only useful for making sure that there won't be a delay due to missing application materials. My status is updated to admitted now, but that happened at least a day after I got the call.teiswei wrote:So from what I gather from this thread is that UT's status checker is pretty... unhelpful, correct?

I don't need the call. I am completely cool with just the status checker reading admitted.poichi wrote:Yes, it's only useful for making sure that there won't be a delay due to missing application materials. I am the same way. Because if they call me, I am literally going to scream uncontrollably with joy into the phone. I would prefer to spare them the pain.teiswei wrote:I don't need the call. But really, snail mail is the worst. I like receiving professional letters, but I like to know as soon as possible (especially if there are already a lot of options on the table).

In that case, it will show up in the Status Updates section, immediately beneath where it says "Your JD application was processed...". Nothing above that line will change.teiswei wrote:I don't need the call. I am completely cool with just the status checker reading admitted.

I overreached and applied (app went complete on Dec. 19.) I expect a ding, but figured nothing ventured, nothing gained. Still under review.

My application was complete on December 10th. I'm definitely a reacher in terms of LSAT for this one, but the longer I go without being denied, the more hope I have. I also signed up a couple of weeks ago for the February LSAT, so I'm hoping they'll wait until then to make a decision.

I hope so! I have seen UT give non-residents in state tuition. If I could get that and little bit of aid it would be amazing. I was accepted pretty quickly and Im hoping the low number of applicants may work to my advantage.

Thanks! I hope it comes for you. Getting a chancellor's made me stop looking at UT as a negotiating tool and start looking at it as a serious option.fruitoftheloom wrote:Congrats!!! We have the same #s (basically) so hopeful for myself!!!Volforlife wrote:I got a Chancellors offer in the mail today!

These links all have some good info on the subject. Basically there are 24% fewer applicants this year than last year, which had fewer applicants than the year before.
To be honest it is tough to say exactly what will happen. Last year it seemed that t20-30 felt the effects. LSAT medians dropped for several schools. Hopefully the reduced number of LSAT takers will give us more leverage in negotiating for scholarships. Tough to say yet if higher ranked schools feel the effects.

Thanks for the encouragement. Turns out I got the offer a couple of days after giving up hope. Short of a full ride, but UT is going to be hard to beat at this point!grapefruits wrote:That's what they want you to think. Give it some time, but don't make any decisions until you've at least requested a scholarship. They aren't going to rescind your offer because you asked. The scale goes up from there .. mostly based on LSAT.Philosophizer wrote:So, during my acceptance call, I was told to look for something from the financial aid office in 7-10 days (I think; the word scholarship wasn't specifically mentioned). Today, 9 days later, I received the "why choose UT" letter.
Maybe I am paranoid, but I worry that this is somehow in lieu of a scholarship offer. Did any of you scholarship recipients receive this letter as well? If so, did it come first, followed by the offer? Or were they together?
Best wishes,
