Hello everyone. I just made the decision and wanted to check in - going ED for round 2 when Dec scores are posted. I'm a lifetime Philly local and would love to study/stay in the city after graduation. Good luck to everyone applying (but better luck to me) -
Kidding. Kind of...

Sorry Don't mean to be thick, but they had the option to Ed already how would reapplying Ed again be any better?? Calling might just annoy them...ChampagnePapi wrote:I think that'd be interesting. Call them and ask anonymously. Its possible that in January, once they have a better idea of the applicant pool and where they are relative to hitting their targets, their feelings may change. If by January they are like "OMG WTF OUR LSAT MEDIAN IS FUCKED" they might want to take another look at Crowing. Its not like he's been rejected - just deferred.Anonymous4444 wrote: Sorry Don't mean to be thick, but they had the option to Ed already how would reapplying Ed again be any better?? Just speculation. If I had to guess they won't allow it, but its worth asking about.

Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I don't think it will work, but there is reasoning for it. By deferring instead of rejecting, they are indicating that there is at least a small possibility that the remainder of the cycle may not turn out as they expect. A 2nd ED would of course require another contract, so that's certainly to their benefit. The disadvantage is that they would then have to return another decision prior to 3/1, but then again it's easy enough to just render another deferrel or a ding or whatever.ChampagnePapi wrote:Call them and ask anonymously. Still, I think it probably won't work mainly on account of principle even though it seems to be practically beneficial for them as far as I can tell as an outsider to the admissions process.

Do ask, and post the answer. I'm very curious of the answer.ChampagnePapi wrote:Call them and ask anonymously. Got held too.Crowing wrote:I just got the hold e-mail. ED.
I spent all weekend thinking i got rejected so I'm not THAT upset.
Does this mean we're deferred to RD?
Anyone know how Penn usually treats hold candidates? Most likely an impending waitlist? Do we get even a small boost at all?
I'm surprised you werent accepted crowing. It's going to be a loong year

Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I took the time to look over a bit of last years thread to see if I could figure out what the UCR dates mean...
Didn't get too much info, but here's the data I have:
UR1 UR2 Date Decision LSAT GPA
12/21 1/17 1/20 WL
11/28 1/3 1/14 WL 167 3.8
11/28 11/30 12/16 Accept 170 3.9
Nov 12/09 12/16 Accept 171 4.05
11/30 12/12 12/16 Accept 173 3.81
12/4 12/12 12/20 Accept 172 3.9
11/? 12/13 ?? ?? ?? ??
11/29 (or 30) 12/15 ?? ?? 168 3.82
11/30 12/15 ?? ?? ?? ??
11/28 12/20 12/22 Accept 174 3.3X
11/28 12/20 12/22 Accept 170 4.1
11/21 12/8 1/13 WL 173 3.65
11/? 12/8 ?? ?? ?? ??
12/5 12/9 12/19 Accept 171 3.9
11/23 None 12/16 Accept ?? ??
11/18 ?? 12/16 Accept ?? ??
12/5 ?? 12/22 Accept 170 3.97
12/22 ?? 4/3 WL 164 3.89
12/22 ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
12/14 ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
Based on this very small and incomplete data set, it looks like people with the same UCR2 dates have the same decisions (note that all of the blank decisions, I looked in their post history and they seem to have been rejected even though they never report it).
Makes me think that the first UR date might be them accessing your application to print it out for the file reviewers, and the second one might be after the committee meeting, entering the decisions (if they do all the accepts on one day and all the rejects on another day, for example.)
Makes me a bit worried, though - AFAIK no one has the same UCR2 date as I do (12/10) so I have no standard to compare to....... Anyone else have the same date?
In any case, based on this info if you're already UCR2 and accepted you should probably hear back in December. Unless the computer issues end up changing that.
