That's true, but I still doubt anything can be more boring than where I'm from. Even though we're pretty close to a number of larger cities and schools, including Michigan, there is absolutely nothing to do. Even the diner is closed by 3 pm. I don't think Lexington can be much worse...pokerlaw wrote:

3PM??? You know, I studied abroad in Lund, Sweden and that place was awfully quiet in the summertime. Everyone goes on long vacations during the summertime over there. The only places open late were the kabob stands.lilliea wrote:That's true, but I still doubt anything can be more boring than where I'm from. I doubt Lexington will be worse than that. At any rate, I definitely want to see it first at the ASW.
I'm from a small town as well, so I think I could deal with it for three years, especially if I'm not going to be in as much debt after I graduate. But we'll see...scholarship information comes out in January...

Lexington isn't so bad. I visited and the part where W&L is in is pretty nice. A lot of small shops around the school. There's chain stores and restaurants along Lee Highway which is the road that leads up to W&L area of Lexington.

Do you happen to know where most students live and if you need a car? I'm from CA and I need to also be able to access the trails I know they have near/in Lexington.ran12 wrote:Lexington isn't so bad. I visited and the part where W&L is in is pretty nice. Re: W&L 2011 Applicants
A few students apparently live at an apt complex right down the road from the law school. I've heard other students liver around town in apts or houses which aren't too hard to get. You definitely need a car. I don't remember seeing public transportation. You could theoretically do without a car if you live at the apt complex near the school b/c the shops I mentioned are walkable but if you really want to get around Lexington a car's necessary. You'll need a car for the trails.queenlizzie13 wrote:Do you happen to know where most students live and if you need a car? What's the rent like? Google and CList are not too helpful.

According to a guide on their website:Aggiegrad2011 wrote:What's the rent like? Google and CList are not too helpful.
$400 - $600 for a single
$500 - $900 for a double
Wow. That is so much cheaper than Irvine.

"Double" didn't mean much to me.
Do ft^2 not exist in Virginia?

I have no clue. I've never been to Lexington and I haven't been able to find anything on Craig's List, Rentals.com or Google either. I was only relying on their guide...and it didn't tell me much.

Yeah, I know! It's frustrating. I guess when you live in the back water, you get back water information.

I see at lot of apartments for VA Beach, Richmond, and even some for Williamsburg, but nothing yet for Lexington.

I'm thinking... if we don't live on campus, we'll end up having to live somewhere else and commute? I don't know, but it's stressing me out not being able to plan budgets and stuff. I have budgets set up for 15 other schools and they were easy to do (more or less) but this one, not so much.queenlizzie13 wrote:It is! The guide does say that the Wood Creek Apartments, which are next to the law school are available for law students and undergraduate students. They are single bedrooms with shared living spaces (so 4 people total).Aggiegrad2011 wrote:I'm thinking... if we don't live on campus, we'll end up having to live somewhere else and commute? I am iffy in living in place like Wood Creek. I would much prefer to be in a one or two bedroom apartment. Anyways, the guide also has lots of realtors in the area you can apparently call for apartments. I think I will go visit in March, and hopefully be able to find out more about the housing situation then.

No, but there's definitely a high possibility, especially if I don't get into my other top choices. I have to visit first. I'm planning on going to the ASW in March.
