If you want NYC, Fordham is probably you best bet. Fordham was in the 20's before the PT numbers were included, much like GW. When GW cut their program in half, they jumped right back to the early twenties. I would be surprised if Fordham wasn't in the twenties again when the new rankings come out in April. I also don't think any of the hiring partners at the big firms see the drop from 28 to 34 (if they even see it at all) as a sign that the quality of Fordham grads is substantially decreasing. It's obviously a tough choice (i'm from NY so it was easy for me) but oh well. I can't speak for USC, but most of my classmates are very happy with the decsion they made.Gotti wrote:H. E. Pennypacker wrote:Well any school is going to spotlight the numbers in a way that makes them the most attractive, and without researching it myself I can't say whether that chart is true, but again, Fordham has a very good reputation in NYC firms, they know what they're getting with Fordham grads.Gotti wrote:
you think this is accurate though? Do Fordham grads really placed that high or is it a skewed/biased report?
Yeah I know Fordham is a good school but I just don't understand why it's ranked 34 this year. Obviously a lot of factors come into play like you said earlier, but what I'm having a hard time with is this:
I'm from CA, but I LOVE NYC and want to live there for a while...so I'm looking at NYC schools. I have absolutely no idea what my mindset is going to be like 3.5-4 years from now...I don't know if I'm going to still love NYC and want to live there or if I'm going to want to move back home. So let's say I get into USC, which is T20, and have a choice between there and Fordham. I feel like USC is the better option overall and will definitely be the best choice if I want to live in LA or CA in general, but I have my heart set to go to NYC for a while and I might want to end up there. How do I justify picking #34 over #18 if I have no idea where I want to be in 4 years??

I know people on this thread have applied and therefore think Fordham is a viable option (unlike everyone else on TLS that thinks going to Fordham is the worst decision ever), so that’s why I’m asking here. I’ll probably post this elsewhere as well just to get more opinions. It seems that if this were true and if it’s competing fiercely with T14, the law school would be ranked a little higher…?

The chart cites the amount of total Fordham almuni in the top firms, not the amount of Fordham students currently being placed in those firms in recent classes.
Considering the size of Fordham Law's class in comparison to say... Cornell, BC, or Yale for example and you can start to see how going to Fordham doesn't really give you the career prospects indicated in the chart.

I think having that many alumni from your school would bode well for you and speak to what the big firms think of Fordham grads. Just my $.02.

Is Fordham generally slower to admit PT applicants? All I see are rejections on both TLS and LSN. Can anyone shed light on this?

Has anyone received their waitlist letter via snail mail yet? I'm still waiting on mine (it's been a week now) and curious to see what information they provide about the waitlist process.

Yikes, just got waitlisted too... Pretty surprised. The status checker never even went under review. 3.3/170 in case anyone is curious.

i think someone already said this, but in answer to your question: fordham has a good reputation in nyc and a ton of the best firms are in nyc.

Re: Fordham 2011
Hi all!
I've been lurking for awhile, but thought I'd start posting now.
Fordham is my reach, but I've been anxiously waiting to hear back, as well.
GPA: 3.43, LSAT = 164
I know I probably don't have a good shot, but like I said, it's my reach. Top choice is Cardozo, then Brooklyn.
I was accepted into American on Friday, and should hear back from St. John's any day now.
I submitted to Fordham 11/12, and went complete shortly thereafter, and then was UR. Went complete again 12/7. I just wish I knew... I'll be sad if I'm WLed or rejected, but waiting is worse. :/

Same. I wonder if they'll let us know soon? I wouldn't be as frustrated, except that it seems like a lot of you guys on this thread have heard back, even if it is WL-ed or rejected.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
