Hmm I don't understand the point of asking for fall grades here. Anyone understand why they do this?dbrddr wrote:Edited for Privacydbrddr wrote:just got an e-mail request for fall grades

Anyone think that emails regarding decisions are probably sent out around the time their office closes, so they don't get inundated with pointless calls about people anxious for their respective decisions?

Lol that actually makes sense. That happened on Tuesday, no?TLSNYC wrote:Anyone think that emails regarding decisions are probably sent out around the time their office closes, so they don't get inundated with pointless calls about people anxious for their respective decisions?
Edit: I wonder what proportion of the ED population is represented on TLS.

They released around 4pm two days ago so I think you're probably right. LSAC does the same thing with LSATs except they make you wait the whole weekend! Three hours til decisions hopefully!TLSNYC wrote:Anyone think that emails regarding decisions are probably sent out around the time their office closes, so they don't get inundated with pointless calls about people anxious for their respective decisions?

They're just dying to offer me a Hamilton... obviously.thecilent wrote: Hmm I don't understand the point of asking for fall grades here. Anyone understand why they do this?
No idea. Maybe we'll see a pattern emerge as there are more requests for grades?

I certainly don't know the purpose, but anecdotally, there has been a fair amount of mention on these boards that a request for fall grades is certainly a positive sign.dbrddr wrote:They're just dying to offer me a Hamilton... obviously.thecilent wrote: Hmm I don't understand the point of asking for fall grades here. Re: Columbia 2011!
I'll be ending one of my classes this semester with an "Incomplete". (Long story short, it'll stay "incomplete" until the paper I'm working on for the class gets sent for publishing next semester.)
Assuming I get a fall grade request, anyone know how LSAC will interpret this? Should I start drafting an addendum now?

& an addendum would let you be all, "Oh, by the way, I am going to get published. I'm very fancy and awesome, please accept me. Kthnx."eskimo wrote:Yeah, might as well put one together - can't hurt!starrydreamz3 wrote:I'll be ending one of my classes this semester with an "Incomplete". (though I would phrase it slightly differently...)

"I have recently exceeded the awesomeness limit of my school's grading system. While they modify the system to accommodate my brilliance, my paper will be getting published. If you accept me to your school, I promise not to break your grading system like I did my alma mater's."dulcatis wrote:& an addendum would let you be all, "Oh, by the way, I am going to get published. Re: Columbia 2011!
This is fairly common I thought. Most independent research and thesis projects are over a year and we usually get incomplete and updated grades later.

Re: Columbia 2011!
As a very borderline candidate, I guess I have mixed feelings on how to feel about not hearing back yet. On one hand, if I'm going to get WL/rejected, I'd prefer to hear back soon, but at the same time NOBODY hearing back is kinda giving me hope...

I guess the next batch last year didn't come till 12/3, but I was hoping that since the first batch had been moved up a day, the second batch would be as well. BUT PLEASE COLUMBIA, DO NOT MAKE ME WAIT OVER THE WEEKEND.
