Can you still borrow the full unsubsidized stafford loan if you have a full scholarship? Will it be paid out directly to you?

Yea. You can. You borrow any amount up to the total COA, so you can get the COA minus your scholarship, which is enough to get the 20,500 full stafford unsubsidized.

They just put it in your account, well, 10,250 a semester, not all at once.

Yea, you can borrow up to COA (assuming you don't have any outstanding defaults or anything). I would REALLY try to avoid GradPLUS loans if at all possible. And if you have a full scholarship, there is no way you need GradPlus loans.

Ah, well. I need to buy a car. And I wanted to get an apartment, but I'm probably going to be stuck commuting from home. Either way, though, I desperately need a car.

That's true, although a car will run me a bit more than that (more like $14K or so). Plus, I have a friend willing to split the rent with me for an apartment, which is what I really would like to do, because I commuted during undergrad, and it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences (really stressful/unpredictable home life).

Well, then, why is a car necessary? You can get an apartment close to a metro stop or one within walking distance. Either way, it sounds like you'd enjoy that more than living at home.

Do we know if most places within walking distance of the school offer pretty easy/cheap parking? I'm mainly concerned about having a car for non law school stuff, but more for like groceries, gym, etc.

You can get by without a car. Life can be easier with one though. But I have friends who have cars here and rarely drive them because we travel in groups and they just end up never actually driving.

In my opinion, it's not particularly necessary, just inconvenient. My parents seem to think it's a necessity, though, and my potential roommate would need to share my car to get to work. That's why I wanted to figure out my loan options.

All the apartments I'm looking at charge $60-$70/month for parking (on top of your rent). I plan to have my car but take the metro to school. I'm from Missouri though so having a car to drive home is a must.

CWE. Most $60-$70 is covered. It is like $35 for non-covered but they all have year long waitlists. I am very against the fact that I have to pay for parking.
