I found out through my status checker. It says "Decision has been mailed" and it's a hyperlink. I clicked on it and there was my acceptance letter.

Ahhh I still need information on the two! I'm having a hard time deciding. I'm pretty sure I want to practice in San Francisco, which makes Hastings the more obvious choice. But then people keep saying Davis's higher rank does matter a lot, and that NorCal firms look at both Davis and Hastings students equally when it comes to offering jobs.

Having read and posted mostly in the latter portion of this topic, I felt like the biggest drawback to Hastings is its cost and lack of merit aid.

Hastings is still slightly cheaper tuition-wise than Davis (although COL is much higher). Neither one offers much need-based aid as far as I know. Hastings doesn't offer much in merit aid, not sure how it compares to Davis in that regard.

Also cost of living is not that much higher at Hastings - if you live in the East Bay instead of in the city. Something to think about.

I was admitted LEOP about a week ago and I'm really excited about the prospect of going to Hastings. But I'm wondering how the student body as a whole treats the LEOP students. I don't want to feel like some second class citizen because I got in for different reasons than a traditional applicant. Any thoughts from current Hastings students?

I don't even know who the LEOP students are. If you don't announce yourself then nobody will know. Even if people did know, most of them would not treat you differently...it's not like people are opposed to LEOP in the first place.

I don't know if this is entirely true. I have a few friends in LEOP and have attended several LEOP-sponsored events on campus. It's true that you don't have to make your LEOP-status made public but I've heard that many non-minority students feel that LEOP students get an "unfair advantage" because they have access to free exam prep and mentors, etc. Many students ARE opposed to LEOP. This is just what I've heard.

By the way, I got into LEOP, too, and am totally honored.

For those of you who have been accepted, did any further information come in the mail after the initial acceptance letter? If so, about how long did it take? I'm waiting for my giant envelope full of flyers!

Regular students can get everything LEOP students can.
-old exams are on the library website
-study supplements are available at the library
-CALI lessons are free at the library
-Each section has a "section leader" who is like the mentor for that section. They hold exam prep sessions, etc. and you can arrange a private meeting with them to get advice.

So where is the unfairness? People who complain about LEOP are just mad about AA. I honestly don't know a single student in LEOP. I don't ask around, and as far as I can tell they don't announce themselves. And I have not heard a single complaint from my classmates.

Well I live at the absolute end of the BART line (dublin/pleasanton), and they charge by the distance. I believe I pay $12.00 per day to go to class. It does seem very steep, but if you figure my Rent + BART = around $675/mo., then it is still a bargain compared to the cheapest Tower housing at around $1000/mo. I figure it would cost me around $30.00 per day to drive instead of BART (SUV gets 16 mpg/$6.00 bay bridge/$8.00 Hastings parking garage = around $30/day). Plus BART is faster and I can read most of my cases while sitting there.

If you live in the Tower you likely won't be using BART much. Most of the travel inside SF is done with MUNI trains or buses. BART mostly goes to the East Bay and the SFO airport. I know Hastings has a hugely discounted MUNI monthly pass for students, but I do not know how much it is. I think its like a 50% discount or something.

I live in Oakland and commute to downtown SF every weekday. One trip from MacArthur BART to downtown is $3.30 (and going up soon), so per week that's $33. Per month we're looking at around $150. I live in a studio in a really great area of Oakland for $850 per month. When I lived with roommates, I was paying $550-650 for a room. $700 to $1000 to live in Oakland is still cheaper than comparable parts of SF.

about 1 hr 20 min door to door. The BART ride itself is about 50 or 55 minutes by itself. It's not that bad once you get used to it. You'd be surprised how much of your reading you can get done in that time.

Agreed. It takes me about the same amount of time and I love it most of the time. I get tons of reading done on BART.

As for LEOP - I know some students in it, and it's true that unless you announce to others that you're in it, no one will know. I do not know of anyone that has a problem with LEOP. As swheat said there's really nothing to have a problem about.

Also, historically, SF has not been the most bike-friendly city. This has improved, but biking is more of a leisurely activity in SF, than a real transportation option b/c of the city's hilly terrain and small European-styled streets.

Just choose on the location. Cost, employment prospects, etc. are too similar to choose upon. Visit both and decide whether you like the laid back college town Davis or the urban Hastings. I personally hate the central valley so Hastings was an easy choice for me.
