The amount was lower than expected but I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it didn't seem to come with any renewal conditions besides filing "appropriate paperwork in a timely manner".
$22K/year
~3.4 GPA and LSAT in the high 160s
I have a special place in my heart for San Diego (the city) so this is making things interesting.
Do you guys think conditional scholarships that require you to stay in top 30% or 25% are worth the risk? If you don't make top 30% then you are screwed.. You lose all scholarship money AND your job prospects go down the drain at the same time. I guess it will motivate you to study harder knowing that tens and thousands of dollars are on the line.. but it just seems like it will add more stress to the law school experience.
Did the scholly letter say it was renewable, or simply that you'd be considered for future scholarships on the basis of your merits and achievements?
It explicitly says that it is renewable for the remaining two years provided that I "continue to establish financial need" and that I "file the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner". Nothing about merits or achievements.
this sounds like need based aid...
"maintain financial need"

To clarify, it's actually a grant and not a scholarship. It does sound like it is need-based but I don't know how they would know my "need" since I haven't completed FAFSA yet.

So if I didn't hear about scholarships in my admission envelope does that mean I'm SOL?

I can confirm this. I got the same thing and was puzzled as well since I haven't filed FAFSA. I don't quite understand how it's need based.

I received this grant too. I sent in my FAFSA but have not yet sent in the USD specific financial aid form. I believe simply qualifying for Stafford loans is sufficient "need" to receive this grant for all three years. Does anyone know if receiving the grant precludes one from receiving a merit based scholarship as well?

In via envelope today.
Funny thing is that my letter of admission had written on it that they needed to receive an official transcript verifying my Bachelor's degree.

is this on all of the letters? I'm pretty sure that was already forwarded to them by LSAC.

I've been out of undergrad for over a year now but some schools still asked me for a transcript.

This is what
USD says about transcripts, directly from their website.
Nothing against you personally.

Are people still waiting to hear about money who were accepted relatively early?

I was also accepted on 1/14 and still haven't heard word about any money. I agree that it is still probably early. I called Financial Aid a few weeks ago and they said they would start sending out aid packages in 2-3 weeks. Which puts us at the right around now..

My status changed to Decision Rendered a week ago and still no word from them on what that decision is.
Anyone else in this situation?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
